Description

From the 1981 “DIFFICULT TO CURE” European tour of RAINBOW, which was reborn with Joe Lynn Turner, the performance in Barcelona, Spain on July 3rd was performed using a top-quality master newly discovered overseas, and the audience was treated to high-quality sound.・Made it into a disc with the source! This is a great release decision for enthusiasts! After the release of “DIFFICULT TO CURE,” RAINBOW successfully gained new fans on a large-scale American tour from February to May 1981. We have made great progress toward the goal of “success in America” set by Richie and his management. A month-long European tour will begin in June, starting with performances in Northern Europe. A large fan base had already been built here through the Ronnie and Graham eras, but in addition to Joe’s fresh charm, the buzz of “Smoke On The Water,” which Richie released completely for the first time in a long while, was a huge fan base for the band, just like in America. This has garnered more support and attention. This work includes the master tape of the first show at Barcelona’s “Plaza Toros Monumental” on July 3rd from the three live shows held in Spain at the end of the ’81 European tour. It has been converted into a disc from a more directly digitized master. The same day sound source itself existed in the past, but the sound quality of this sound source, which is the top source, is of a quality that shrugs off previous releases. On the “DIFFICULT TO CURE” European tour, DEF LEPPARD, who had just debuted, was used as support, and SCORPIONS was scheduled to join them in Spain. However, as SCORPIONS was unable to participate, UFO was appointed in their place and held a live performance in Barcelona. Normally, the support acts UFO, DEF LEPPARD, and the main group RAINBOW were supposed to take the stage in that order, but in Barcelona, Ritchie didn’t want to play late at night before the show, so RAINBOW performed first. There is an anecdote that it was suddenly changed to an irregular format: , then UFO, and finally DEF LEPPARD. Although it is a little far away, it is a recording that captures the atmosphere and heat of the venue well from the opening intro, and the outlook is excellent for a tape recording made over 30 years ago. Immediately after the live performance opened with “Over The Rainbow,” the excitement was as exciting as if it were a picture of “Spain, the land of passion.” (During the live performance, Joe says, “Don’t push me forward.”) mode). This vivid sense of presence and well-balanced performance can be said to be the main features of this recording. The new song “Spotlight Kid” begins with an explosion of pyro, “Love’s No Friend” inherited from the Graham era, “Man On The Silver Mountain” and “Catch The Rainbow” from the Ronnie era, an exquisite mix of the three’s representative songs. The set list is fulfilling and rewarding even from a current fan’s perspective. “I Surrender” and “Can’t Happen Here”, which featured Don Airey’s play, also have a glittering mood typical of the ’81 live. The medley of “Lost In Hollywood” and “Difficult To Cure” in the second half of the live performance is a big highlight. You can also enjoy “Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll” where the audience sings in chorus with the realism that is typical of this recording. The fun excitement of “All Night Long” with “Lazy” as an intro, and the explosion of “Smoke On The Water” featuring “Woman From Tokyo” will make you feel excited as you listen to it. Richie’s guitar crash that explodes at the end is also vividly recorded. You can clearly hear the noise of the guitar screaming, the surprise and enthusiasm of the venue until the end. As the roaring sound emitted by the guitar gradually fades away, the outro “Over The Rainbow” and the last part where the audience applauds are also a wonderful document. Please enjoy this exciting live performance for approximately 100 minutes on two discs. Live at Plaza Toros Monumental, Barcelona, Spain 3rd July 1981 TRULY AMAZING SOUND Disc 1 1.
