Description
This is the latest in the Kinney excavation series, the valuable home performance of “BENT OUT OF SHAPE TOUR 1983-1984”. This work is an audience album containing the “September 17, 1983 Finsbury Park performance”. Kinney recording has long been known for the legendary original 3-disc analog “STARGAZER”, but this time it seems that the recording cassette itself has been lost, so it has been reprinted from the legendary original LP. We have digitized many Kinney analogs, and by leveraging the know-how we have cultivated over the years, we have created a sound that combines the warmth of analog with the clarity of modern technology. In addition to the excellent recording itself, the pitch, which was high in the original, is accurate, and the slight noise that was present has been carefully removed. Of course, I didn’t make it unnecessary and flashy, but I thoroughly polished up the musical sounds that were contained in the recording. The resulting sound is full of wonderful, beautiful clarity. Although it’s not a direct-to-ear sound like a soundboard, the balance is such that the beautiful high notes rise above the solid mid-bass, and the song penetrates straight through the space of the venue, giving it a vivid feel. Since it is RAINBOW, not only does it focus on the essential Ritchie Blackmore’s guitar and Joe Lynn Turner’s singing voice, but it is amazing that you can even listen to the new member Chuck Bergi in detail. Chuck is often criticized for his tight sense of rhythm, but the drumming you can hear in this work is wonderful, full of delicate taste and sense. From the opening song, “Spotlight Kid,” the album reborns a famous song with a sharp beat, and the key points are also frighteningly sharp. On top of that, the cymbal work was pounding in like a storm, but it wasn’t floating at all. In the up-tempo, he incorporates some nice side dishes to make the song stand out, and even in the simple beat of the mid-tempo, he doesn’t just keep the rhythm, but if you listen closely, he creates a “drum riff.” Then, in a dramatic song like “Catch The Rainbow,” Richie’s guitar gradually flares up, and he responds with a variety of phrases, making the song heated up…everything about it matches the song, and it’s more than anything. So natural that you won’t even notice it. It doesn’t have that “heavy” feel to it, and has a very light 80’s sound, but its accuracy, detail, and good taste are what you would expect from “former BRAND X.” Even when Ian Paice was reluctant to reunite DEEP PURPLE, it is no wonder that Richie often tried to invite Chuck in the 1995 reunion RAINBOW…It is a sound that can clearly feel such drumming. The reason why Chuck is burning so much may be because this live is RAINBOW’s homeland UK performance. At the UK concert in 1981, Americans Joe Lynn Turner and Bobby Rondinelli gave passionate performances that seemed to prove to the fans in their home country that they were the ones who deserved it! is also American. To be honest, Joe in this work does not have as beautiful a voice as the 1984 performance in Japan, but Chuck is so passionate that it seems like he will get some change. And Richie is also on fire. Actually, there was no UK tour for the “STRAIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES TOUR 1982”, and this was their first performance in their home country in two years since “DIFFICULT TO CURE TOUR 1981” in 1981. In the past, he used to perform live performances that captivated the audience with long, long solos, but from around 1982, his style changed to one in which the songs were played compactly, with captivating phrases within them. Last year, there were times when he felt confused about the changes, but here he is familiar with the new style and has no hesitation in his phrases. A number of phrases that are sometimes meltingly sweet and sometimes crisp and tight. It’s a guitar that seems to have a much higher density. Furthermore, “Drinking With The Devil” and “Stargazer”, which were not available in Japan, are also delicious. While “Drinking With The Devil” is a full performance, “Stargazer” is a style that collapses into “Stranded” in less than two minutes. However, it definitely includes vocals, and above all, it is the first comeback since the first MONSTERS OF ROCK. I wish they would do this production in Japan too… The venue heated up at once with three consecutive uploads of “Stranded,” “Death Alley Driver,” and “Fire Dance.” This “BENT OUT OF SHAPE TOUR 1983-1984” not only has the crispness that has been achieved by Chuck, but also has a fast tempo, giving you an irresistible sense of speed! It was a time when there was a strong image that they were aiming for hit charts with their pop songwriting, but at live performances they also showed an aggressiveness that seemed to have an eye on the rise of a new generation of heavy metal. There are three songs that symbolize this. Although said to be the most complete in the Joe era, “BENT OUT OF SHAPE TOUR 1983-1984” has very few records in all RAINBOW eras due to its unusually short schedule. This is a masterpiece of Kinney recording that captures that precious live with great quality. The excitement of their first performance in the UK in two years, a new and polished concert style, Chuck’s sharp and versatile drumming…this is a record full of delicious elements. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content!
