Description
The famous edition recording QUEEN’s last Tokyo performance has been reprinted as a full-scale expanded version. Introducing a 3-disc set of 2 CDs + DVD. The last night was the performance at the “May 11, 1985: National Yoyogi Stadium.” Yes, this work is an expanded version of the blockbuster title “DEFINITIVE FINAL CONCERT IN TOKYO”. First of all, let’s check the show position on the schedule of “THE WORKS JAPAN TOUR”, which was QUEEN’s last visit to Japan.・May 8th + 9th: Nippon Budokan ・May 11th: National Yoyogi Stadium [This work] ・May 13th: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium ・May 15th: Osaka Castle Hall This show has been broadcast on TV and radio since then. It is also famous for its broadcasts, and has been officially made into a work as “FINAL CONCERT LIVE IN JAPAN”. It was a concert that truly symbolized the “last Japan.” “Wardour-289” was the last official soundboard album in Tokyo. It became extremely popular right after its release due to its amazing quality. Already sold out and out of print. However, with the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” sparking Queen fever, requests for a reissue are flooding in. This is where it became a reprint release. The original soundboard sound source, which was lacking in solos and some songs, has been expanded to include all songs, and the best multi-camera pro shots are also included. It has evolved into the ultimate form that has taken all possible precautions. First of all, let’s introduce the basics individually for those who are new to the game. [Disc 1-2: Expanded version of the official over-the-top soundboard] ●Broadcast sound source of official over-the-top quality The first thing that appears is the main two-disc soundboard album. This is not just anyone. As mentioned earlier, this show is already an official DVD, but this work is a different FM broadcast version. In fact, the official version has not been well received by enthusiasts for some time. The support keyboard was mixed louder than Brian May’s guitar, the drum sound was strange, and Roger Taylor’s voice was hard to hear… Official was just the name, and it made me want to say, “What is this?” However, the FM broadcast version was different. Since it was broadcast shortly after the live performance, it was a natural mix before any tinkering by the official side, and it was exactly the same as the sound heard at the venue. It has a fresh natural sound, and also includes “Liar”, the first half of which was edited in the official video, and “Dragon Attack”, which was completely cut. It was a broadcast that received rave reviews from enthusiasts around the world, saying it was “more than official” and “this should have been left official.” ●Achieving a complete version with the treasured Kinney master The previous work was a direct CD version of the highest peak master in the history of FM broadcasting, but this work is a further upgrade. The intros and guitar solos of songs that were also cut during broadcasting are supplemented with the best audience recordings. Moreover, this audience master is not an ordinary person either. This is the original cassette of the famous “Kinney”! This is already exquisite. The clarity is like a clear blue sky, and the performance and singing voice reach straight to your fingertips without stagnation. It is a beautiful sound that is just called Kinney Magic. There are three main parts that were complemented by Kinney Master. The opening scene at the beginning of “Machines”, the intro of “Is This The World We Created?” after “Now I’m Here”, and the entire “Guitar Solo / Brighton Rock” after “Love Of My Life” are recorded. That’s what I’m doing. The biggest song is “Guitar Solo / Brighton Rock,” which lasts about 10 minutes. “Brighton Rock” is extremely dramatic, with plenty of solos that gently change from passionate phrases, and the excitement transforms into an edge. You can listen to the scat that Freddie puts in at the end. The other parts are the intro and ending of the song that were omitted, but along with that, you can also listen to MCs such as “Domo Arigato Gozaimashita”, “Try this”, and “Absolutely Perfect!”. Best of all, the flow is natural. You can also enjoy the aftertaste of “Is This The World We Created?” and “Love Of My Life,” which have so far suddenly moved on. Strictly speaking, it’s still not 100% accurate as there are still some cheering parts missing for several seconds, but we valued the natural flow of the work rather than increasing the number of master changes. ●The soundboard part has also been improved. Furthermore, the soundboard that is the main part of this story is not the same as the previous work. It has been meticulously remastered and polished to maximize the potential of the original sound. While valuing the natural sound that was the point of the broadcast version as much as possible, we organized it by each range. As a result, we have achieved a quality of clarity that far exceeds the original sound. Actually, this direction is also influenced by the audience part. Because the Kinney recording is so clear, a superb soundboard was also required to have this clarity in order to listen to it flowingly. This one point alone will give you an idea of how exquisite the supplementary audience is and the naturalness of the overall flow of this work. [Disc 3: This is also a TV broadcast version pro shot that is beyond official] In addition to such an extended live album, this work also includes a TV broadcast pro shot. The TV version was also a super broadcast that completely ignored the official video, and was a version of the “Young Music Show” music program that was familiar to rock fans at the time. This is a masterpiece that was directly digitized by receiving the master directly from a core enthusiast who air-checked it at the time and treasured it carefully. The nostalgic logo splits left and right, and QUEEN’s performance at Yoyogi Stadium begins. From there, the clear image quality is amazing, making it hard to believe that it is an air check video recording. There is no screen distortion or tracking noise, and the image quality is as beautiful as if it were produced from a laser disc. The camera work is similar to the official video, but the timing of camera changes and angles used are slightly different, and more close-up shots of Freddie Mercury are used than in the official video. That alone is surprising, but what is even more shocking is the sound. It’s on par with the best radio broadcasts, and the mid-bass is even smoother and richer. In addition, Japanese captions are included here and there, and Japanese translations of the lyrics are also played for “Under Pressure”, “Is This The World We Created?”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and “We Are The Champions”. The song title font, which clearly reflects the image of QUEEN at the time, is a nice touch, but what’s even more amazing is the subtitles for the lyrics. A few letters are briefly displayed at the edge of the screen, but while one line is displayed, Freddie sings three or four lines of lyrics. Even in movies, I sometimes think, “Is this the only one who talks so much?”, but it’s not like that. Now, if you’re asking me if it’s bad subtitles, then this is different. The words that capture the image of the song, instead of being completely truncated, are extremely cool. For example, “We are the champions, my friend” would be translated into CD as “We are the champions, my friends,” but in this broadcast it would be “Friends, we are warriors.” Although “Champions” cannot be called “warrior”, it fits perfectly with that heroic melody, and it hits you hard. Even more intense is “Under Pressure”. The subtitle displayed in the highlight of the song is “Under the Sword of Damocles.” There is no mention of “Damocles” in the original English lyrics, but this is actually an anecdote from Greek mythology. One day, Dionysius II said to Damocles, who was jealous of the throne, “Then sit down.” As Damocles sat happily, a sword was suspended from a thin thread above his head. This is an anecdote that explains that “power is always side by side with danger,” but this has become the meaning of “Sword of Damocles = a state of close call.” In other words, it is a paraphrase of “Under pressure = Sword of Damocles”. This literary sensibility is something you would expect from a certain broadcasting association, or what should I say…? This also creates a strong mood of the times. There are 8 songs in the 50-minute program: “Somebody to Love,” “Killer Queen,” “Impromptu,” “Now I’m Here,” “Love of My Life,” “Hammer to Fall,” “I Want to Break Free,” and “Jailhouse Rock.” has been cut, but instead (?) this work also includes bonus footage. This is a professional shot of a live appearance on a civil law TV program on “May 8, 1985.” There will be three people other than Freddie, and it will only be a live announcement without a performance, but a valuable professional shot of the “May 8, 1985 Budokan performance”, which will be the first day of the last Japan tour, will also be shown for about 30 seconds. A two-disc live album with the finest FM soundboard that exceeds the official work and supplemented with a full scale Kinney master. And a multi-camera professional shot that is different from the radio version. This is the ultimate 3-disc set that explores the possibilities of both.
