Description

The Tokyo Budokan performance on April 19, 1975, which suddenly appeared in early 2011 as the “first visit to Japan and first day performance”, was recorded almost completely with the first audience recording. The most important live performance for Japanese fans on this day has only been recorded on “A Beautiful Album” (analog LP) in the past, and this is the first time that the live performance on this day has been heard for such a long time. Unfortunately, the sound quality is not so good, but the performance can be heard clearly from the distant sound image, and the sound is fresh, so it is definitely an essential sound source for enthusiasts. Son And Daughter, which was recorded in pieces across the disc in the original sound, is combined, and the cut part of God Save The Queen is connected from the “A Beautiful Album” take. Of course, the pitch has been adjusted. “A Beautiful Album” is about 50 minutes long, while this version is 1 hour and 42 minutes long, which is more than 50 minutes long. Since you can hear Ogre Battle, Father To Son, Flick Of The Wrist, Son And Daughter, Keep Yourself Alive, Seven Seas Of Rhye, and Liar for the first time in this take, as well as between songs, you can understand the importance of this sound source, which cannot be measured by sound quality alone. Many people will be moved by the first MC in Japan after the Ogre Battle, “Thank you! Konbanwa! (X2) and good evening to everybody. It’s very nice to be here and your beautiful Japan!” He probably expected the Japanese fans to be enthusiastic, but he didn’t expect them to go into such a hysterical frenzy. After the next Ogre Battle, he said in a panic, “Listen! Shuush! Quiet! You’re going to have to be careful. Calm down a bit. We’re gonna be here for a long time, so don’t rush so much. Don’t rush the front of the stage. Take it easy, ok? You know what I want? We’re all gonna have a good time.” As Freddie’s words suggest, the fans surged forward in front of the stage (you can hear the staff chanting during the MC), and in fact, some people fainted and collapsed people were carried to the medical room, so it seemed like they were in a state of considerable panic. The situation seems to have not changed even after Father To Son ended, and Freddie calls on the audience to calm down a little more, saying, “I’m getting a show of my own! You’re gonna have to quiet down a bit, so people don’t get hurt. Please, take care of yourselves. Just behave and listen!” White Queen also starts with a guitar intro, but doesn’t start right away. Freddie says, “Listen to everyone. See!” and starts singing. The band does not flinch from this situation and plays a full set. The first encore, Big Spender, Modern Times Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Jailhouse Rock, are spectacular. A few minutes later, Queen reappears (which was reportedly not originally scheduled for that night) and you can enjoy a full-scale live performance that demonstrates all their power with See What A Fool I’ve Been. A feature of this sound source is that the sound image is stable despite the sound being far away (almost no deterioration), and if you can get the hang of how to listen, you can enjoy it fully, and it is a high-grade take that is well worth appreciating. The tape is well recorded until the end, and has considerable value as a document of the day. I don’t recommend this for beginners, but it’s a must-have for anyone who wants to collect Queen recordings, even just a little. Live at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 19th April 1975 Disc 1 1. Procession 2.
