Description
QUEEN’s last Japan tour in 1985. It is a tour that has produced a number of super powerful recordings that can even be called legendary, and a big 6-disc album that summarizes them is now available! The last Japan tour was a total of 5 performances, but this work includes 3 full set performances. “May 9, 1985, Nippon Budokan,” “May 11, Yoyogi National Stadium,” and “May 15, Osaka Castle Hall.” The best recordings are known for each, but we have reviewed them one by one from the basics to the finer details and compiled “The Last Japan” into one set of the best, biggest, and best. Anyway, all three performances are all deluxe sound sources that shine in the history of QUEEN’s sound sources. Now, let’s take a look at each of the three performances. [May 9th, Nippon Budokan] Discs 1 and 2 are from Nippon Budokan, the second performance of the Japan tour. This recording caused a huge sensation when it was released as “AT LAST BUDOKAN (Masterport-014)”. The sound is in the “abnormal” range, and it is at a level that competes for 1st and 2nd in QUEEN audience recordings. It’s not “1985” or “THE WORKS TOUR’s”, it’s the 1st and 2nd place in the all-audience record. In other words, it has surpassed even the dimension of audience seating recording or line, and if you listen to it without knowing anything, it is a dimension of “official album that is very close to cheering”. Moreover, the content of the show is extremely good. All four are in great condition, but Freddie Mercury’s voice is especially wonderful, and even on an overseas QUEEN sound source site, it is said that “Freddie on this day is the best on THE WORKS TOUR”. Of course, among the three performances this time, I was captivated by her free and powerful voice, such as “Day-O” and the intense improvisational parts. This is the second time that such a super master has been pressed by the Wardour label. The first edition, “AT LAST BUDOKAN (Wardour-007),” included the original sound as it is on the original cassette and the remastered version with an emphasis on power, but this time we will re-record it from the original cassette that was given to us by the person who recorded it. Digitization. The legendary high sound quality has been further upgraded. Although the previous performance is super clear, it feels a little distant compared to the other two performances. This time, we didn’t do any forced equalization and just brought out the natural direct feel of the performance. The two performances I will introduce later have also been remastered, but this Budokan performance will be the one where you will feel the most effective results. [May 11th, National Yoyogi Stadium] The following discs 3 and 4 are the third performance at Yoyogi Stadium, which was also made into an official video. This is a genuine soundboard version that was broadcast on a certain public broadcasting station at that time. Of course, this live is also on the official DVD, so it seems that there is no need to use the soundboard now, but somehow, the sound is definitely better than the official version! In the official version, the support keyboard was mixed louder than Brian May’s guitar, the drum sound was strange, Roger Taylor’s voice was hard to hear… ?” However, the radio version that was broadcast shortly after the live performance was exactly as heard at the venue, with natural sound and mix. Furthermore, “Liar”, the first half of which was edited in the official video, and “Dragon Attack”, which was completely cut, are also perfectly recorded. There are comments from a famous DJ at the beginning and end of the program, but since it is a public broadcast, there are no commercials, making it an even more official live album. Public broadcaster, GJ! Moreover, this master was created directly from the tapes that core enthusiasts recorded at the time and treasured. It is a hidden treasure that has never been released on CD. This was digitized using the latest technology, and in order to give the 6-disc set a sense of unity, we created a balance that makes it easy to blend in with the other two performances. This means that the other two performances are so amazing that it doesn’t feel strange even when placed side by side with a sound board that sounds better than the official video. [May 15th, Osaka Castle Hall] The third disc 5 and 6 are from the last day of the last Japan tour. This is Osaka Castle Hall, which was truly the “last live performance in Japan”. Moreover, this day was also the last day of the world tour that started in August 1984. Although it is an audience recording, this is also a transcendent ultra recording! In the Budokan section of Discs 1 and 2, I wrote, “We will compete for 1st and 2nd place in the audience recording,” but this is actually our competitor. It is a master that is proudly called “No. 1 of all audience recordings” on overseas sound source sites. This is also a master that has been released as “LAST CONCERT IN JAPAN”, but in this work, it has been digitized again from the original cassette given by the recording person himself. As with the previous release, “Radio Ga Ga” with a tape change is supplemented with other sound sources, but this is also finished more carefully and is 8 seconds longer than the previous release, making it a natural connection. Not only the sound but also the content of the show is noteworthy. Perhaps because it was the last day of the show, there was a lot of fun throughout, with the piano improvisation before “Killer Queen” showing passages from “My Fairly King” and “March Of Black Queen,” and “Whole Lotta Shakin” during “Jailhouse Rock.” A line from ‘Going’ jumps out at me. What’s more interesting to listen to is that Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” is played almost in its entirety for three and a half minutes as the intro to “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Although Freddie’s condition is not as good as Budokan, it is a show where you can feel the spirit and openness of the world tour Senshu Raku more than enough. In fact, this “THE WORKS TOUR” was nothing but a trial for QUEEN. They received criticism from all over the world for performing live in South Africa, and even in Brazil, which was supposed to be a passionately pro-QUEEN country, they were booed loudly over their costumes for “I Want To Break Free.” You may remember that rumors of disbandment were being talked about, and it seems that there was a possibility that this Osaka Castle would be QUEEN’s last concert. At the very end, in Japan, QUEEN was finally surrounded by the same warm welcome and loud cheers as usual. Two months later, they performed a miraculous turnaround at LIVE AID, but at this point, Japan was the last remaining “ally of QUEEN.” As a result, it was the last Japan tour, but this work is not just the “last on record”. Of course, there is also a collection of extremely high-quality sound records, but that alone does not impress. Each of the six CDs is filled with the feelings of QUEEN, who were turned away by the world, and the feelings of the fans who will never forget them. That’s why my heart is so shaken. “Love Of My Life” has a huge chorus at the Budokan. There is a woman who is overcome with emotion and shouts, “My Freddie!” Normally I would have let out a bitter smile, but it was because the Japanese never forgot this feeling that they were saved. The last 3 performances of the Japan tour that shine brilliantly in QUEEN’s history both as a record and as a memory. Even now, almost a quarter of a century has passed since the “Four Queens” disappeared, we still cannot forget them. 5 hours 49 minutes 45 seconds of bliss will be delivered to you in 6 CDs that will last forever.
