Description
While the shock of “YAMAGUCHI 1979” and “LYON 1979” still remains, an even more shocking live album has been discovered. Contained in this shocking work is the “April 27, 1979: Kobe Central Gymnasium” performance. Like the recently released “YAMAGUCHI 1979”, this is an audience recording of the “JAZZ TOUR” performance in Japan. However, its impact far exceeds even “YAMAGUCHI 1979”. Although the Yamaguchi performance has been kept secret, its existence is known, and some core collectors have acquired it for actual inspection. However, this Kobe performance is different. Although there are collectors who simply say that it exists, its contents are completely unknown. (Perhaps I’ve never heard it before.) I don’t even know how many minutes it is recorded, let alone the sound quality or the track name. It has existed only in rumors. Such a semi-fantasy recording really did exist. Moreover, there are two! This work is a live album that includes all of those two audience masters. It is the first appearance sound source that shakes QUEEN mania around the world. Before we get into the details, let’s talk about Shaw’s position. Please check the schedule along with the collections we have introduced so far in our store. ・April 13th: Nippon Budokan “BUDOKAN 1979 1ST NIGHT” ・April 14th: Nippon Budokan “BUDOKAN 1979 2ND NIGHT” ・April 19th + 20th: Festival Hall “DEFINITIVE OSAKA 1979” ・April 21st: Practical Ethics Memorial Hall・April 23rd: Nippon Budokan “PRIDE AND JOY”・April 24th: Nippon Budokan・April 25th: Nippon Budokan “BUDOKAN 1979”・April 27th: Kobe Central Gymnasium ←★This work ★・April 28th: Nagoya International Exhibition Center “THE PLEASURE CHEST”・April 30th + May 1st: Fukuoka Kyuden Gymnasium “MEMORIAL GYM”・May 2nd: Yamaguchi Prefectural Gymnasium “YAMAGUCHI 1979”・May 5th + 6th: Makomanai Ice Arena *Note: Only representative works are shown on each day. As mentioned earlier, this work contains two records of the Kobe performance. However, its structure is a little complicated. Discs 1-2 are long live albums that make full use of two masters, and disc 3 contains the short “RECORDER 2” in its entirety. Why is it configured this way? Let’s take a closer look and introduce each of them. [Disc 1-2: Long live album centered on RECORDER 1] First up is a live album that reproduces the show as much as possible with two recordings. It includes everything from the opening to the last “Tie Your Mother Down” of the main set, and unfortunately both encore parts were not recorded. The main one is the long recording “RECORDER 1”. However, although this is a long version, the recording stops in the middle, and there are four songs: “You’re My Best Friend,” “Now I’m Here,” “Teo Torriatte,” and “Don’t Stop Me Now.” was not recorded. That part is supplemented with a short recording “RECORDER 2”. If you listen to it without knowing anything, the sound quality will change in the middle part, but this is not a replacement due to the quality of the recording, but rather a complement to the part that was not recorded. The point of this disc 1-2 is the splendor of the long recording “RECORDER 1”. It’s a monaural recording, and at the beginning of the performance, you can feel the distortion, and you think, “Well, I’m just thankful that I can listen to it…”, but when “We Will Rock You” starts flowing, my resignation turns into joy. The sound is clear and clear, and the clarity is greatly improved. Moreover, the performance sound is great! Of course, it is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, it is a vintage audience after all, but even so, the core with no sense of distance approaches quickly and closely in front of you while keeping the details clear. Still, there is still some sound shaking, but it improves as the show progresses, and by the time you enter the third song “Somebody To Love”, it becomes almost unnoticeable. This work is shocking because it is the first appearance in the world, but it is a wonderful sound that will make you forget even that. However, the impact of the world’s first appearance is still strong. What reminds me of Freddie’s words after “We Will Rock You” is, “Good evening. How are you doing? We’re happy to be back in Kobe.” You can feel the weight of the recording when you hear the Japanese word “Kobe” clearly and vividly. Furthermore, after “Let Me Entertain You”, Brian says, “How are you doing? It’s been a while. Five years, five years, OK.” This “5 years” probably refers to the Kobe performance in Japan for the first time. It was actually four years ago, but the pronunciation of “yonen” and “gonen” is so weird that it ends up being “onen.” It’s a sound that allows you to clearly understand even the subtlest pronunciations. [Disc 3: Contains all of the short RECORDER 2] Following such a long live album is a panoramic view of “RECORDER 2”. This was a full 60 minute cassette recording from the opening to “Love Of My Life”. Four songs are used as supplements on Disc 1-2 above, but this is also a valuable new excavation. This work preserves all of that forever. “RECORDER 2” is also a wonderful vintage audience. Although it yields to “RECORDER 1″ in terms of clarity and closeness, I’m glad that this is a stereo recording. Of course, since it is not a sound board, the performance will not spin in circles, but you can realistically feel the three-dimensional and realistic feeling of the applause spreading throughout the Kobe Central Gymnasium. And a sense of stability. Although “RECORDER 1” gradually improved, there was some sound fluctuation, but this one is stable. Although another overwriting recording is included for a moment (about 1 second) at the beginning of “Don’t Stop Me Now”, other than that you can thoroughly immerse yourself in the world premiere scene. And every song and phrase drawn with that sound are all performances that I hear for the first time. On the other hand, even the parts that cannot be heard are important, and “If You Can’t Beat Them”, which was performed on the second day in Osaka and in Nagoya the next day, was not performed in Kobe. Including this fact, music that until now was little more than a rumor, and notes that the world was learning about for the first time, continue endlessly. It is truly a shocking live album. Disc 3 includes one bonus track at the end. This is not a performance, but a message/comment for readers recorded in an interview with a certain music magazine. The four of them speak one word at a time, but their voices are truly youthful. This alone is a valuable sound source that feels the weight of 40 years. Discs 1-2 allow you to listen to most of the show for about 102 minutes, with “RECORDER 1” as the main track. And, Disc 3 is a complete recording of “RECORDER 2” which was discovered at the same time. All of these are shocking new excavation masters that the world has learned for the first time. A new treasure that appeared in 2019, 40 years after the “JAZZ TOUR” scene. ★First appearance in 1979 Kobe Central Gymnasium Performance Even rarer than Yamaguchi. Includes 2 existing sources.
