Description

The FM soundboard of the Mannheim performance that represented QUEEN’s last “THE MAGIC TOUR” along with the official “LIVE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM” and “HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY”. The original master reel of the broadcasting station that became the basis for that classic has been unearthed! [Miraculous acquisition of the actual master reel of the broadcasting station] Included in such an incident disc is the “Manheim performance on June 21, 1986”. This show has been radio broadcast on NPR (US Public Radio Station) and NDR (North German Radio), and is a classic among the classics that has produced numerous FM soundboard discs. Our ultimate quality edition “DEFINITIVE MANNHEIM” was a huge hit at our store. It is a sound board recording that can be said to be the treasure of “THE MAGIC TOUR”, but this work is different from those that have already been released. It is directly digitized from the actual master reel used by the radio station. Moreover, this reel sound source is not available on the internet. There is also a photo of the actual reel on the right, which is probably made in West Germany. Copies were distributed all over the world (including Japan), but this reel was sent to America. The American FM station recently put it up for auction, and it was offered to me by an enthusiast who made the winning bid. Then, when I played that treasure master, the “source of legendary broadcasting” came out, including parts that could not be heard in previous releases. Before we get into the shocking content, here’s the show’s position. Let’s check it out in the overall picture of “THE MAGIC TOUR”.・May 11th: GOLDEN ROSE POP FESTIVAL [“A KIND OF MAGIC” released on June 3rd] ・June 7th-July 2nd: Europe #1 (12 performances) ←★Here★・July 5th – 16th: UK (5 shows) ・July 19th – August 5th: Europe #2 (8 shows) ・August 9th: Knebworth show (last show) This is QUEEN’s last tour. Originally, the tour lasted about two months without a break, but if you divide it between the UK and continental Europe, it will look like this. While “LIVE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM” was “UK” and “HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY” was “Europe #2,” the Mannheim performance of this work was “Europe #1” in the early stages. This is the seventh concert, and together with the two official works, it has symbolized the beginning, middle, and end of the tour. [A panoramic view of the Mannheim performance that no one knew about] Now, onto the main topic. This work is packed with the “sources” of that legendary broadcast, but what is most shocking is the length. It also included parts that could not be heard in previous releases. Of course, the performance parts are the same as before, but there are 5 parts that have been cut, mainly between songs. As soon as it plays, you can hear the NDR announcement, but the longer one is about 30 seconds between “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Who Wants To Live Forever”. Here, Freddie hits the microphone to stir up the audience’s applause, and Roger’s drumming adds to the excitement. The second one was waiting for the encore after “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” After Freddie says “Good Night Thank you!”, the cheers waiting for their reappearance are recorded for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The third one was also waiting for the encore after “Radio Ga Ga”. Two minutes of previously unknown on-site sounds are played, and there are loud calls and clapping to bring QUEEN back three times, and the mood that rises up as they reappear is vivid. And, at the end, after the show ended with “God Save The Queen”. The loud cheers that erupted at the on-site announcement were recorded for about 3 seconds longer than those that had already been released. It may have been cut because the cheers were judged to be too long during the broadcast, but this is the “original”. You may think it’s just a cheer, but the experience is completely different depending on whether it’s actually there or not. “Who Wants To Live Forever”, which had suddenly changed its mood in the previous songs, flows naturally, and the catharsis of “Radio Ga Ga” and “We Will Rock You” is doubled because the audience waits for the encore with great anticipation. It is. On the other hand, strangely, this master reel lacked about a minute of cheers after “Now I’m Here.” In this work, we supplemented this part from the previous release and realized the longest and complete form of the show. What’s more, the ultra-realistic sound doesn’t stop between songs. “DEFINITIVE MANNHEIM” had an “official style” in terms of sound and stereo sound that thoroughly removed noise, but this work is more natural. Since it is completely unprocessed, the sound has a lot of the scent of 80’s broadcasts, and it is extremely fresh because it is “Omoto”. In fact, this broadcast was also known for its high-pitched and chirpy feel, but apparently that was the case from the beginning. In “DEFINITIVE MANNHEIM”, the sound was reduced through mastering etc. and finished in an official style sound, but in this work, the “truth of the reel” has been faithfully digitized. The Mannheim performance depicted with such a sound is still wonderful. I think there are many people who know it because it is a classic, but Freddie was also in great condition on this day. They were not afraid to make mistakes and pulled the show together, and the entire band’s excitement rose. It’s exhilarating just to just go with the flow, but if you listen closely, after “Impromptu” you’ll instantly hear the riff of the Beatles’ “I Feel Fine” and THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP’s “Gimme Some Lovin’.” Anyway, the whole story is passed in a forward-looking mood, and some enthusiasts call it “better than Wembley!” and “one of the best shows of 1986.” Another highlight is “Tutti Frutti.” Fish from MARILLION jumped in to join us here. You can enjoy the unusually thick chorus with the original sound board. A traditional broadcast that has passed down “THE MAGIC TOUR” along with the two official works. This is the best stereo sound board unique to this work that was created from the original master reel. Scenes that were previously unknown were also recorded, making this a new excavation that is nothing more than an “incident”.
