Description

Shocking…that’s the only thing I can say. This is a shocking new discovery that will shock you beyond surprise. A phantom recording that was only rumored to exist, but had never been heard by even core collectors. The day has finally come when the whole story will be revealed. The phantom sound source was recorded exactly 40 years ago at “February 17, 1979 Lyon performance (France)”. Yes, it is an audience recording that fully records a live performance that is considered to be one of the recording days of the traditional official live work “LIVE KILLERS”. In order to explain the circumstances, let’s first look back at the panoramic view of “JAAZ TOUR” that gave birth to “LIVE KILLERS”. ●1978・October 28-November 9: North America A (8 performances)《“JAZZ” released on November 10》・November 10-December 20: North America B (27 performances)●1979・January 17th – March 1st: Europe (28 performances)←★Here★ ・April 13th – May 6th: Japan (15 performances)《“LIVE KILLERS” released on June 22nd》・August 18th: SAARBRUCKEN OPEN AIR appearance This is the whole picture of “JAAZ TOUR 1978-1979”. Among these, the “European” leg was recorded for “LIVE KILLERS”. It is known that this official work is an edited work that combines takes from several performances, but the full story has not yet been elucidated. Not only is each song different, but intricate editing is done to combine them within each song, and since there are no audience recordings from that time, verification is not progressing. Here we will introduce the currently known verification results… ○Rotterdam (January 30th): God Save the Queen ○Frankfurt (February 2nd): Killer Queen, Bicycle Race, ’39, Bohemian Rhapsody, Tie Your Mother Down, We Will Rock You, Get Down, Death on Two Legs (part), Make Love (part), Love of My Life (part) ○Zurich (February 4): I’ m in Love with My Car ○Barcelona (February 20): Death on Two Legs (part), Get Down, Make Love (part) ○Paris (February 27): We Are the Champions, Love of My Life (part) ○ Paris (February 28): Brighton Rock (part) ○ Paris (March 1); Get Down, Make Love (part), Brighton Rock (part) ● Lyon (February) 17th): Dreamer’s Ball, Keep Yourself Alive, Don’t Stop Me Now, Brighton Rock (part) ○Unknown: We Will Rock You (fast), Let Me Entertain You, You’re My Best Friend, Now I’ m Here, Spread Your Wings, Sheer Heart Attack… and so on. In fact, there are different descriptions depending on the material, so this is not definitive. If you look at the large number of “unknown” songs (some of them) and still have no clue, you will realize how difficult the verification process is. Of these, the Lyon performance of this work is the second most popular after the Frankfurt performance (depending on the material, in addition to the above four songs, “I’m In Love With My Car”, “Get Down, Make Love”, “You’re My “Best Friend” and “Now I’m Here” are also listed as Lyon performances). It is exactly the concert that is the key to “LIVE KILLERS”. As mentioned earlier, the existence of the recording of this show was only rumored, but it is this work. The quality is a blessing just to be able to listen to such a valuable recording…… it’s not! There is some distortion in the opening part, but that’s only at the beginning. In the middle of the first song “We Will Rock You (fast)”, things have already improved and a clear sound world appears. From there, it gets better as the show progresses, and by the time it reaches “Somebody To Love”, it looks beautiful and even glossy. Actually, there is some noise that seems to be deterioration at the beginning of the middle part “Don’t Stop Me Now” and the next song “Spread Your Wings”, but it also picks up soon. And the beautiful parts, which make up the majority, are of a high level. Of course, it is not a close-up recording like a sound board, but the atmosphere is transparent, and the powerful core reaches straight to your fingertips. The freshness of the master is also exquisite, there is almost no distortion in the singing voice, and you can clearly understand every word of the lyrics sung by Freddie. Even without the impact of the new excavation and “LIVE KILLERS”, it is one of the masterpiece recordings on “JAAZ TOUR”. The show drawn with such a sound is shocking. I will refrain from making a definitive analysis of “LIVE KILLERS” as it would be too overwhelming, but even among the songs mentioned above, the familiar phrases and singing voices startle me, and the emotion I experience in the midst of the excitement warms my heart. And, conversely, when it comes to unfamiliar songs, the singing turns and solos that you hear for the first time are like another version of a live masterpiece, and even the MC’s every word is fresh. What makes me realize more than that is the splendor of the show itself. Freddie’s voice is superb, as he is in the groove and stretches comfortably, and his performance is full of spirit, as if he is drawn to it. It is a show that burns with passion for the first live album. The venue was filled with excitement as they witnessed their enthusiastic performance, and the enthusiasm that erupted between songs and the loud choruses were thick. As expected, there are things that are the key to “LIVE KILLERS”. It is a very fulfilling show for both QUEEN and the audience. The Lyon performance has finally been revealed in its entirety. With the arrival of this work, the analysis of “LIVE KILLERS” will advance at once. “Unknown” songs may also be resolved. In addition to the shock of such a new discovery, this is a book that gives you the joy of learning a new famous recording of “JAAZ TOUR” and the excitement of being able to experience the actual scene of “LIVE KILLERS”. It is a super first-class document for exploring the backside of a masterpiece, but at the same time, it is also a live album where you can experience the wonderful sound from the opening performance of “JAAZ TOUR” to “God Save The Queen”. All I can say is “shock”. A miraculous new excavation that occurred in February 2019, the 40th anniversary of the live performance. ★World’s first sound source.
