What, what a shock. Regardless of whether it’s official or unofficial, a new superlative soundboard master has been discovered that may become the No. 1 live album in QUEEN history. What is engraved on the impact sound board is “March 20, 1981 Sao Paulo performance”. It is one act of “THE GAME TOUR”, which is known for reaching its peak and having a series of great performances, and is a stereo soundboard recording of a gigantic show that attracted 131,000 people, the largest in QUEEN’s history. This show has been known for its TV and FM broadcasts for a long time, and it is a super famous sound source that has produced countless previous releases, and some of it was even used in the official edition “ON AIR”. This work is an incident board that has (significantly!) upgraded the highest peak of such a classic. Before we get into the shocking content, let’s talk about the show’s position. At that time, both albums and singles reached No. 1 in the United States, and the historic “GREATEST HITS” was also released. It was a time of great physical and mental fulfillment, with a series of big hits and a live masterpiece, “QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL.” First, let’s look back on that journey. ●1980《“THE GAME” released on June 30th》・June 30th-July 14th: North America #1 (14 performances)・August 5th-September 30th: North America #2 (35 performances)・November 23rd to December 18th: Europe (17 performances) ・February 12th to 19th, 1981: Japan (6 performances) ・February 28th to March 21st: Latin America #1 (7 performances) )←★Coco★・September 25th – October 18th: Latin America #2 (6 performances)《“GREATEST HITS” released on October 26th》・November 24th + 25th: Montreal (2 performances) [Original Excavated pre-FM master reel] This is the golden age of QUEEN. In 1980, he toured North America and Europe, and in 1981 he toured Japan and Central and South America. “QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL” was a special performance after the tour for filming, but the Sao Paulo performance of this work was 8 months before that. This was the 6th concert of “Latin America #1”. As mentioned earlier, this show is famous for its broadcast soundboard, but this work is different from the previous ones. It is a masterpiece of the ultimate gene that was digitized from the master reel before broadcast. What’s more, this master reel is our store’s original. It was brought to us through a unique route, and is an extremely valuable item unique to this work that is not available anywhere else other than the internet. What came out of such a treasured reel was an upgraded sound that made you forget all the previous ones. I often say “official grade” as the best compliment, but this work is more than that. In fact, seven songs from this show are included in the official version “ON AIR”, but it is much better than that official take. What’s great about it is…everything. The official take seemed to be an excavation, the mix was rough, and even though it had great power, it lacked subtlety and was the type that pressed together in a lump. On the other hand, this work has a clean mix and sound, and even when played at high volume through the speakers, the equipment does not get tired, and if you listen carefully with headphones, the details are delicate. Of course, it easily beats even the official take, so it can’t even be compared to the previous bootlegs. Depending on the record, there may be hiss or the midrange is spoiled, and I’d like you to erase from your memory the previously occurring groups. The ending of “Me”, the first minute of “Now I’m Here”, and the dialogue part in the middle were unnaturally cut. . [A super passionate performance in front of 130,000 people] The show drawn with such a sound is also amazing. Even in “ON AIR”, which only has 7 songs, I could see the great performance, but it pervades the whole song. A huge audience of 130,000 people… no, Freddie’s excitement in front of a huge crowd was sky-high, and his throat was in great condition. The range from delicate whispers to roars is amazing, and the improvised phrases are all flashy and sharp. The fine vibrato rises with such force that it reaches the heavens. In a sense, this tension is even higher than “QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL.” Moreover, the vividness is overwhelming. The Montreal video was a masterpiece that was elaborated by mixing two performances and overdubbing, but this work is in contrast to such polish. Since it is a live broadcast, it is overflowing with the charm of 100% real life in one shot. In fact, it wasn’t a perfect performance, with Brian dramatically losing track of the sound during the solo of “Somebody To Love” and mistiming the gong at the end of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, but even that is a documentary. . Rather, the momentum that makes such small mistakes even better is amazing, and even in “Somebody To Love”, he shows off his ever-changing vocals, and the funky intro of “Keep Yourself Alive” where John is full of imagination. I wonder if it’s different when 130,000 people are enthusiastic about it… It’s an enthusiastic performance that continues to overwhelm me with such emotion. And the 130,000-person effect doesn’t stop at the performance. South America is a region that has supported Queen as enthusiastically as Japan, but 1981 was the first time they visited South America. The excitement of meeting people for the first time was added to the country’s character, which is already known for its enthusiasm for Latin music, and the number has swelled to 130,000 people. Speaking of the awesomeness of “Love Of My Life” where Brian stops playing due to the huge chorus and “We Will Rock You” where the echo feeling of the large crowd creates a huge spectacle…. Normally, I should mention “Need Your Loving Tonight” and “Fat Bottomed Girls”, which cannot be heard on “QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL”, and the accomplished ensemble of “QUEEN with only 4 members” without a support keyboard player. Not even that. He visited South America for the first time at the peak of his mental and physical well-being, and the night in Sao Paulo he ran through a full show with intense excitement. This is a miraculous reel master whose classic sound board has been upgraded beyond the official one. The sound, the set, the tension, the performance, the vividness…If you put it all together, this might be the best and strongest live album in QUEEN’s history. An absolutely unavoidable work that transcends the distinction between official and unofficial.
