Description

A completely unreleased rehearsal and sound check collection from the Purple Rain tour! Recorded on a super-amazing stereo soundboard at the Riverfront Colisium on January 22, 1985. The shocking Computer Blue jam, which starts with a dirty guitar, is quite experimental, but it has a special sound that is only here, which is interesting. The same phrase is repeated over and over, but it is addictive, and the aesthetics of the repetition are funkiness, which should make you excited. Prince’s trembling phrasing with his guitar is what makes it so exciting. After 15 minutes, Prince finally starts singing, but he finishes it immediately. Prince’s instructions change it again, and I was surprised to see the version of Computer Blue with an interesting effect that emphasizes the bass start again. Prince, who can change it in any way, has never performed this at a live show. You can see Eddie M is there from the MC. Free’s clownish singing style is interesting, but in Baby I’m A Star, which includes Eddie’s horn phrase adjustments to further perfect the jam, Prince continues to play relentlessly until he is satisfied, leaving him speechless. And it actually becomes super funky, so it’s irresistible. White Girls! and We are young’s Old And Ignant-like phrases are also entangled. It’s cooler than any jam in Baby I’m A Star! The bass switches to a more forward sound source, and this phrase is also numbing. 25 yeah is also included. The funk that follows is already in agony. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. Prince’s funk that can only be found here is recorded. Body Heat, which starts with a cut, is also wonderful. Prince instructs Eddie to play a new part, and Eddie’s bravery is actually inserted. Let’s Go Crazy, which starts casually, is short, but Prince plays a phrase I’ve never heard before, which is wonderful. Free’s instructions to the members on the guitar are also wonderful. And the sound check before the American Music Awards performance. The sound quality is a little rougher than Disc 1, but it’s still a great stereo soundboard source. It starts with The Ladder, where the bass line is emphasized and the guitar phrases are sharp. Prince sings at about 4 minutes, which makes me happy. Wendy and Lisa in the chorus are also beautiful, and then the melancholy guitar comes in. This is a better timing than the studio version. Prince and his friends finally start sound checking, as if they were told to stand by. And the sound check is unique in that Prince sings Purple Rain right away when they play it. They are very serious. A Love Bizarre is cut with a super funk cut, and it is arranged in a way that Wendy and Prince never did in their live performance, which is super cool. Sheila E. may be there because she is playing Glamarous Life at the awards ceremony. Prince is singing here. Prince plays Purple Rain at the time of the awards, and if you like Purple Rain, as everyone probably does, you can especially enjoy the arrangement, especially the keyboard work, on Disc 2. After this, the recording of “We Are the World” took place, with Sheila E. participating, but Prince did not participate, perhaps because he was singing next to Michael Jackson. Later, media reported that he was recording “Hello” at the time (the song was written on May 24, 1985). In reality, Prince was enjoying Mexican food with Jill Jones and others, but afterwards, paparazzi entered Prince’s car and tried to take photos. Two bodyguards tried to protect Prince, but one was arrested on suspicion of assault, and the other was charged with robbery for stealing the camera. This became a perfect story for the media. Below are the lyrics of Hello. “I said I don’t want to sing, but I’d be happy to write songs. They said OK, so it should have been fine. I was sitting with a nice friend, and all of a sudden this guy is trying to get in the car. Prince! Smile! Yes, you, you’re the star. You call him a bodyguard, but to me he’s a friend. I’m used to being with friends. Cameras are money, but uptown they’re a big problem! I eat what I want, and you do the same. That makes me happy. We’re against starving kids. Our records are adamant about that. The country is just as starving. We do what we can. If you understand, we’ll grow like watered flowers, and the kids won’t be wrong.” Bonus features Purple Rain’s performance, Hello 2 version. Disc 3 is a soundcheck at The Forum on February 22, 1985. The sound is a little distorted at first, but otherwise it is a very lively soundboard recording. The first shock is the wonderful instrumental G-Spot, which combines cutting, keyboard and bass grooves. A little bit of the phrase from 4 The Tears In Your Eyes is included. Then the cutting starts with the intro, or rather, America, which uses that phrase to move forward groovy, is the best. The cutting is also free-flowing, but the keyboard also develops freaky. Finally, Prince starts singing around the 6th minute. Because of that, the fierce funk finally gains momentum. The guitar, piano and various phrases are included, so it never gets boring. Even if you stop it halfway, it’s cool that the performance resumes again with Prince’s count. There is also an effect that delays Prince’s vocals. At the very end, the funk that hits the phrase saved is waiting! Then he stops playing after saying, “Can you hear my voice?” It continues for 30 minutes, but in just a few seconds Prince counts again and America is played again. He stops again, this time with a heavy bass-based jam. He adds America phrases to it, creating a fresh funk. He starts checking drums and effects sounds and starts again, but it seems the tape has run out halfway through. America is just over 41 minutes long, and is the epitome of funkiness for those who want to dance as long as possible. It is completely unclear what kind of live performance was held on this day, but there is a high possibility that America was played. And the sound check of Cow Palace on March 5th with Sheila E. The sound check of this day can be heard under the following titles. Prince & The Revolution/Purple In U.S.A. However, what you can listen to this time is not included in the above titles, but is from the end of the sound check. First of all, the jam that seems to be a mix of G-spot and Jungle Love is too cool. You can enjoy the sound of each part while checking various things with Let’s Go Crazy. And there is a beautiful moment when Prince sings the traditional tune “Bonnie Come Back To Me” with Wendy and others joining in the chorus.
