Miracle Theme and Prince’s Best Live Performance A precious recording from the Tamer period. Although there was a release of the US tour in which Prince participated in Tamer’s live performance as a guitarist, after the release of the album “3121”, Tamer participated in Prince’s live performance as a featured vocalist, including the promotion of the album in a reversed role, which was often done accidentally, so the only performance released is the June 27th live performance “BET” at the Beverly Hills Hotel as an after-show of the Bet Awards, which could be said to be their last act. “Gotta Lotta Butter To Go” is a gig before “BET”, a rare period of Prince and Tamer’s live performance! A very good audience recording that has been carefully remastered by 4Dafunk, who has a reputation for remastering the master owned by Akashic Records! A total of 150 minutes, full of the charm of Prince and Tamer, this is the best item that allows you to know the whole picture of their live performance! The band members are Tamar, Twins, Maurice Hayes, Cora and Joshua, Mike Scott, Mike Phillips, Greg Boyer, and Maceo Parker! From “It Ain’t Over” it feels like they started jamming in the studio, and Prince’s guitar explodes on “Peach”, which is really cool! “Te Amo Corazon” is rarely played later, but around this time Prince sings in the second half, but the first half has a grand intro centered around horns like Greg Boyer, which is an interesting development, and it is an arrangement unique to this period that does not feature Prince’s guitar. The first half has a relaxed performance that is not found in the later 21 Nights, and especially the 12-minute “The Ride” has Cora’s drumming that seems to emphasize weight over rhythm, making it a heavy performance that makes you feel like it is truly blues. And finally Tamar appears, including the MC, and she is starting to look dignified, like Aretha Franklin in her younger days. The vocals of “Love Changes” are lively, just like the excellent version of “I Never Loved A Man” which is also coquettish! And the rare cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”! The first half has a slightly progressive intro of guitar and keyboard, and you can enjoy a heartwarming duet between Prince and Tamar! The first appearance of the two, the rock world of the two, is a highlight! It lasts for 13 minutes, but Prince’s roaring guitar in the second half is amazing, and you won’t get bored at all! And Tamar’s ultimate love ballad “When A Man Loves A Woman”! You can enjoy Tamar’s free-flowing and cute vocals! “Red Headed Stepchild” is also great, and even the “Come on!” voice resonates in your heart! The four songs on Disc 1 are great performances that make you think that Tamar’s live version is the original! The next song, “Thank You,” is quite an experimental performance. Prince takes the lead vocals, but Tamer also sings a vocal that incites the audience. The rhythm is the same, but before you know it, it becomes “Play That Funky Music,” a rare version that you’ve never heard before! And even on Disc 2, the momentum of the band, or rather the momentum of Tamer and Prince, doesn’t stop! A fast-paced version of “Partyman,” in which Greg plays an active role, full of black flavor! And the songs from “3121,” which appeared around this time, first of all, the horns of “3121” are suppressed, but instead, it’s a simple version that creates a groove with keyboards, drums, and bass. It’s a groove that doesn’t change for 12 minutes, but it never gets boring, because it shows the basics of the song! “Lolita,” “Satisfied,” and “Black Swwat” are also played longer and more carefully than later, which is unique to this period. Once the stage calms down after “Kiss,” we hear “All Eye Want Is U/Joy In Repetition,” which can only be heard around this time! This is a mash-up version of Tamar singing her song “All Eye Want Is U” while the backing is “Joy In Repetition”. In the second half, Prince sings “Joy In Repetition”, but he sings with emotion just like Tamar, and the audience joins in to sing along, making it the best performance ever. From there, they performed “Anotherloverholenyohead/Rock Lobster” and “If I Was Your Girlfriend” near the end. And the epic last 20 minutes of “Be Happy/Ecstacy” mash-up jam will give you goosebumps! Later, Shelby sings many times during the live performance, just like Mary J, but this is a live version where Prince also takes the vocals! However, here it seems like all of the various versions are included, as if it is a magnificent long jam like “Baby I’m A Star” from the Purple Rain tour and “It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night” from the Sign of the Times tour! Tamar’s vocals are amazing after all! Prince repeats the call and response “NPG” to the audience as if to say “NPG is amazing!” He even gets the audience to say the name of guest performer Questlove. “Party over here, party over there,” Tamer shouts, funky like a P-Funk live show, and the cutting guitar and horns are full of blackness, making this one of the best final songs that can be called a grand finale! Why wasn’t this development carried out later? It’s probably because without Tamer, no better version could be made. That’s how great Tamer’s presence is, and this is the best live performance that makes you realize that.
