Description

This compilation features soundchecks from ONA’s Japan tour! Arranged in chronological order, each track features high-quality audience recordings! Starting with the soundcheck on the 15th, Prince finally appears as the band plays an instrumental rendition of “Last December,” followed by “Give Some More,” the band’s first funky jam to land in Japan! Then there’s the soundchecks from the Budokan on the 18th and 19th, featuring Stevie Wonder’s “Living 4 the City” and “A Case of U,” a performance only seen during the Japan tour. These are truly outstanding soundchecks! But the real highlight is on Disc 2! Starting with the cover of Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love” from the Fukuoka show! This rock-infused rendition boasts a power you won’t find at any of ONA’s shows, making this track alone worth the purchase! And then there’s the incredibly popular Osaka show, where the soundcheck was actually incredible! The sudden, slamming chopper bass explosion of “Hair,” “777-9311,” and “The Stick” was already there during soundcheck. Cool funky jams followed in rapid succession, including Eric’s solo. By “If You Want Me To Stay,” the audience was already in a state of “whatever it takes!” To reward the already ecstatic Osaka audience, they briefly played “When Doves Cry”! From there, they were transported to a world of sensuality, with Alexa De Paris’s emotional performance followed by Prince’s mesmerizing keyboard instrumentals. After the exciting Sendai performance, they were likely buoyed by the soundcheck and delivered the longest main show of their Japan tour! What an incredible Osaka soundcheck! And the final performance was “Superstition,” performed during the Nagoya soundcheck on the final day! Who would have thought this song was even heard in Japan! Speaking of funky, this song was casually played as a calling card, and it was truly moving! Although there was no after-show at the Japanese performances, and it is true that Sendai was one of them, it was still a big deal to be able to listen to the sound check that replaced the after-show and give you a taste of that freaky atmosphere!
