Prince/Emancipation 3 Configurations and Outtakes

Emancipation is an album celebrating the end of his contract with Warner and his marriage to Mayte. It is a three-disc masterpiece released in November 1996, but did you know that Warner, the company with which he was trying to end his contract, was planning to release Emancipation? This time, we have reproduced the three configurations presented to Warner from the existing masters made in 1995. First, Disc 1 is the July 1995 configuration. This was made based on the master of the following 1995 configuration, the exact date of which is unknown, and has been edited to connect the songs firmly. The title Slave actually refers to the unreleased song Slave 2 The System, and the title Slowly Candle Burns actually refers to an alternate version of Slave. It includes alternate versions of Emancipation, as well as completely unreleased songs that can only be heard here, such as 2020, Feel Good (he sings “I’m going to be free” in 1999, the year his contract with Warner was terminated, so it is a very symbolic song for this Warner configuration), Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart, and D.J. (known as I Am D.J.). Both configurations are very different from the official Emancipation 3 CD. The setlist is different and the songs are cleverly connected, so the atmosphere also sounds different. Disc 2 is the fall 1995 configuration, which includes a version where (Excuse Me Is This) Goodbye is independent, that is, the Crystal Ball version, and other songs have been edited to recreate the more complete Emancipation on Warner’s last CD. In the latter half of the album, they started to consider releasing a 3CD Emancipation in a hurry in 1997, and included as many songs as possible that were planned to be included in the album, other than the official 3CD Emancipation. In fact, it seems that the early 3CD Emancipation album contained unreleased songs that had not yet been excavated, so it is impossible to reproduce them completely. Although the songs included are miscellaneous, you can imagine that it was a very different Emancipation.
