Description
THE POLICE made their shocking debut with “OUTLANDOS D’AMOUR” in the spring of 1979, on the eve of their breakthrough. The soundboard recording of the lively live performance has been upgraded. This is the birth of a decisive board created from a newly discovered master reel. This work includes “May 16, 1979 San Diego Performance”. This is a stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of 1979, he made a breakthrough with the hit single “Message in a Bottle”, but this work is just before that. In order to get an idea of the situation at that time, let’s take a look at the schedule at that time. 1978/October 20th-November 1st: North America #1a (12 performances) <<OUTLANDOS D’AMOUR” released on November 2nd>/November 2nd-15th: North American #1b (11 performances) November 25th – December 29th: UK (20 performances) 1979, January 9th – February 21st: Europe #1 (24 performances), March 1st – April 9th: North America #2 ( 30 performances) ・April 12th – 25th: Europe #2 (3 performances) ・April 27th – May 25th: North America #3 (23 performances) ←★Here★ ・May 31st – June 24th Sun: Europe #3 (22 performances)《August “REGGATTA DE BLANC” completed》《September 21st: Single “Message in a Bottle” released》 This is a summary of activities related to the debut work “OUTLANDOS D’AMOUR”. This was not all of 1978/1979, even before their debut work, and before and after the release of “REGGATTA DE BLANC”, they were fully immersed in live performances. Production on “REGGATTA DE BLANC” began in February 1979 (“No Time This Time” was only released in 1978) and was completed in August. This work was the 14th concert of “North America #3” which crossed the ocean during that time. Such a show is also known for being broadcast on the radio on the local station “KGB-FM”, and its air check was a staple that gave birth to countless existing groups. This work is also an FM sound board, but it is neither a copy of a previously released nor a remaster. It is a shocking piece that was digitized directly from the newly discovered pre-broadcast reel master. In fact, the sound is completely different from the previous version, super tight and super realistic. The biggest difference is the fully exposed core. Although it can be seen that the core edge of the existing group is sharp (depending on the disc), the echo is applied thickly there, and the balance is such that the peak pierces from the bouncy middle. Although it was obvious that it was a sound board due to the lack of audience noise and the sense of close contact, the auditory sensation was also like that of an audience. However, this pre-FM master is completely different. There is no echo sensation at all, and the exposed core is poured directly into your brain. That’s exactly what makes it a different sound that differs from the mix stage. I was worried that by boldly removing the echo, the sound would pierce my ears, but that’s not the case. To be honest, the peaks are a bit clogged and the mix is rough. I don’t feel like I can advertise it as “just like an official product.” However, it has a random, wild feel, and is rather natural. This is just my imagination, but I think that the air check groups that have already aired may have applied an echo to create a rich feeling at the broadcast or release stage, and raised the peak to disguise the blur. This work does not have the “sudden feeling of a spear coming out of the clouds” like in previous releases, and the vividness of the three people’s sounds is as vivid as if you were listening to IEMs. What is depicted on such a live sound board is a harsh show that can be called a live performance version of the debut work “OUTLANDOS D’AMOUR”. To be honest, I don’t need to organize the set, but I thought I’d do it just to get a feel for how thorough it is. Outlands d’Amour (9 songs, 10 takes), Can’t Stand Losing You (2 times) / Truth Hits Everybody / So Lonely / Born In The 50’s / Hole in My Life / Be My Girl—Sally / Peanuts / Roxanne / Next to You Others (3 songs) – Fall Out/Message in a Bottle/Landlord… and so on. All songs from “OUTLANDOS D’AMOUR” except “Masoko Tanga” are performed, and the singles “Fall Out” and “Landlord” as well as the new song “Message in a Bottle” that will change your destiny are interspersed with it. Then, the opening and ending are coated with “Can’t Stand Losing You”, giving it a sense of reincarnation as if it were a concept album based on their debut work. The performance that spells out such a set is just so aggressive. The momentum of the time when you were in the middle of the punk boomment is hit hard, and it is forcibly poured into your brain with a super real sound board. The shock of the pre-FM reel, which goes beyond simply upgrading the standard and reveals new pleasures. This is the 100% original version of “OUTLANDOS D’AMOUR”. A stereo soundboard recording of the “May 16, 1979 San Diego performance” that was on the verge of breaking out. This masterpiece was digitized directly from the local station KGB-FM’s Pre FM reel master, and is completely different from the previous edition. The conventional version had a balance where the peaks pierce like spears from a thick cloud of echoes, but this work has an unprocessed, random, natural feel that is exquisite. A young ensemble that emerged from the punk movement is depicted with ultra-realistic sounds that connect directly to your brain. This is a shocking live album that is truly a 100% original version of “OUTLANDOS D’AMOR.” The Roxy, Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA, USA 16th May 1979 STEREO SBD (62:11) 01. Can’t Stand Losing You 02.
