Description

Along with “DEFINITIVE BOSTON 1975”, the super-famous recording that has been praised as “the masterpiece of the WISH YOU WERE HERE Tour” has been brushed up. The ultimate version, polished by the obsessive mastering of “GRAF ZEPPELIN”, is now available. The masterpiece recording is the “June 17, 1975 Uniondale performance”. It is a super-excellent audience recording. This show has been known for its recording for a long time, and it is a classic among classics that has been upgraded many times during its long recording history. Perhaps those who have noticed this article have some kind of already issued one. This work is also a classic recording, but it is one that updates the peak. [The highest peak updated board polished from the original cassette transfer] The key to this upgrade is “polishing from the original cassette”. Some people may think “What?” here. The best version to date is “NASSAU COLISEUM 1975 2ND NIGHT: CASSETTE MASTER” released in 2017, and as the title suggests, the original cassette is already familiar to us. At this point, you might think, “So, it’s just a little different from the last time?” But that’s not the case. Rather, the sound is significantly different from the previous “GRAF ZEPPELIN” remasters, and you’ll be surprised at the finish, saying “It’s completely different!” at first listen. To explain the sound, you also need knowledge of the previous edition “Sigma 175”. Let’s turn the clock back to 2017. The “2nd Day of Uniondale” had been upgraded many times up until then, but it was revolutionary in 2017. The original cassette was unearthed. The different level of improvement was a big jump from the second team to the first team, and it even became the most likely candidate for the championship at once. And collectors all over the world were delighted with the big improvement. Furthermore, some enthusiasts have appeared who have performed their own mastering in pursuit of the ultimate, and not only the original cassette but also several mastering versions have been released. Among them, the version that was most highly rated among collectors was “NASSAU COLISEUM 1975 2ND NIGHT: CASSETTE MASTER”. Of course, we also performed the final check/finishing at our shop, but the base was the version that was adjusted by overseas enthusiasts and gained a reputation of “This is the best!” at the time. In contrast, the foundation of this work is the original “cassette version master”. Returning to the origin, “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has polished it from scratch. The difference is clear immediately after playback. This recording starts with the sound check before the show, but it is completely different from there. In this work, a beautiful and clear applause rises up in a loud voice, but when I listen to the previous board “Sigma 175” again, it becomes a mass like a distant wind sound, which is accompanied by a swishy distortion. This is probably because the previous version intentionally cut out the applause. Every crackle was removed, and whistling was suppressed. “Audience noise” was literally considered “noise” and was cut out as if it were unnecessary. Of course, there is a right and wrong in itself, but the problem is that it feels like it has been processed. The strangely withdrawn, rough and undulating applause sounds like a strange sound, like deep-fried sponge tempura. [The “brilliant sound” created by meticulous mastering] It’s easy to understand, so I’ve talked a lot about the applause, but this can also be said about the important sound of the performance. The previous version, “Sigma 175,” had a bold mid-range narrowing and a strong boost in the low range. This created a tremendous power in the performance and was the reason for the praise from enthusiasts all over the world. However, it did not lead to brightness. Since it was a major upgrade, I was surprised that it was “incredibly clear!”, but when I listened carefully with headphones, the sound was swirling and clouded the fine details. In particular, the bass drum was swallowed up by the huge vortex of the guitar and bass, and only a weak sound like hitting cardboard remained. In comparison, this work has a tremendous natural feel. The silent parts without swells are as transparent as crystal glass, and even when the guitar and bass are loud, other sounds and gaps are beautifully drawn. This does not mean that the guitar and bass are sacrificed. For example, the bass stood out at first listen with its heavy bass power on the previous version, but in fact the sharpness and contours of the attack sound were dull. In comparison, the average work has a sharp attack and a rough sound, and the sound never lasts long, and it only gives the core of the performance sound a metallic luster. This vividness is the result of respecting the “natural feeling of the original cassette” to the maximum extent, but it does not mean that it is “just like the original”. On the contrary. As I have mentioned in previous “GRAF ZEPPELIN” remaster works, the precision is not half-baked. Pitch adjustment that responds precisely to random changes, petit noise processing that checks both by ear and by waveform, phase adjustment that does not miss even 1/1000th of a second deviation, etc. In fact, in the natural transfer of the original cassette, the phase was (slightly) shifted to the left channel and there was also high-frequency noise, but all of these points have been improved. Furthermore, in the previous board “Sigma 175”, there was a slight gap (probably created at the stage of mastering by overseas enthusiasts) before “Raving And Drooling” and “Echoes”. Of course, this work is working on the original cassette transfer, so there is no such gap. This recording is called a masterpiece not only because of the good sound but also because of the excellent performance. The splendor was abundant in the previous board, but this work sounds even more brilliant. Those who value the most powerful sound may prefer the previous version, but this work has details that were sacrificed to create that power. This is an updated version of the masterpiece, with overwhelming improvements in the prominence of each sound, natural reality, and crystal clear vividness. A three-disc set that captures that brilliance. A super-excellent audience recording of the “June 17, 1975 Uniondale performance”. This is a traditional famous recording that has been upgraded many times, and this work is the highest peak updated version that “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has polished from the original cassette transfer. The previous version “Sigma 175” based on the master produced by an overseas enthusiast was a powerful sound with a very bold bass sound, but this work places the utmost importance on the naturalness and clarity of the original. On top of that, the pitch, noise processing, and the most precise polishing that does not allow even 1/1000th of a second of deviation have achieved overwhelming vividness. This is an updated version of the tour’s masterpiece, with overwhelming improvements in the prominence of each sound, natural reality, and crystal clear vividness. (Remastering Memo) This time, the data digitized from the Master has been remastered. The previous version, “NASSAU COLISEUM 1975 2ND NIGHT: CASSETTE MASTER,” was based on what is said to be Flying -M- (Dec 2016). The difference between this version and the previous one is that the EQ processing is completely different. While the previous version had a very powerful sound with a very low range, it was accompanied by a strange feeling of processing. This version has been remastered with a focus on reinforcing the low range, but also with an emphasis on the overall balance. Mastering that respects the original atmosphere of the site. Other: Phase correction (slightly left-leaning → center) High frequency noise removal (2 filters, 18khz and 14khz, on the left channel only, although it doesn’t affect the sound originally, just to be sure) Live at Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY, USA 17th June 1975 ULTIMATE SOUND (UPGRADE) Disc 1 (59:01) 1.
