Description

A new masterpiece that can be said to be a sister edition of the great masterpiece “M-502 DEFINITIVE EDITION” has been born! “GRAF ZEPPELIN” makes full use of the three existing recordings to revive the legendary free concert of “ATOM HEART MOTHER Tour”. This work is engraved with “June 26, 1971 Amsterdam performance”. It is the best audience recording. Why is this work a sister of “M-502 DEFINITIVE EDITION”? It’s the recorder. As mentioned above, three recordings are used in this work, but the main sound source was recorded by “N Brothers”, the same as “M-502”. In order to explain the situation around there, let’s first organize the three masters that were the source of this work. RECORDER 1-Superior stereo audience recording by “N Brothers”. -Main sound source of this work.・Digitalized by Neonknight from the legendary LP “THE EARLY TOURS ’70-’71 (FET 771)”. ・The on-stage performance sound is close up, and the stereo feeling is also characterized by a large separation. ●RECORDER 2・Stereo audience recording also known as “AT FREE CONCERT 1971 (Ayanami-190)”. ・Compared to the other two sound sources, it is slightly farther away, but has the longest recording time. ・In this work, it is mainly used as a supplementary sound source for cheering parts, etc. ・2nd generation sound source transferred by “Neonknight”. ●RECORDER 3・Super high-end stereo audience recording by “N Brothers”. ・The best sound that is closest to the sound, but it is short at about 20 minutes. ・The whole thing is used in this work. ・Transferred by “Neonknight” from the 3rd generation master unearthed in recent years. …And so it is. This work is based on “RECORDER 1” and makes the most of the best sounding “RECORDER 3”. The cheering parts that neither of them have are complemented by “RECORDER 2”. And “RECORDER 1” and “RECORDER 3”, which are the key to this work, are the “N Brothers” recordings. You may think, “Does the same taper mean the same recording?”, but in fact this is complicated. Apparently “N Brothers” is a recording team, and “M-502” is also known as an “N Brothers” recording, while at the same time, the personal name “Robert Nitz” is also known. In other words, “RECORDER 1 & 3” of this work are probably two different double recordings by Mr. Nitz and another person (I’m not sure, but it may be that Nitz’s brother and sister are “N Brothers”). Thus, this work is a sister work of “M-502”, but the sound and show content are quite different. To explain this, let’s take a look at the activities at that time. “ATOM HEART MOTHER Tour” ・January 17th – February 27th: Europe #1 (10 performances) ←※M-502 DEFINITIVE EDITION, etc. ・April 3rd – July 1st: Europe #2 (20 performances) ←★Here★ ・August 6th – 15th: Japan / Australia (5 performances) ←※OSAKA 1971 REVISITED, etc. ・September 18th – October 3rd: Europe #3 (7 performances) ←※MONTREUX 1971 REVISITED《October 4th – 7th: Filmed in Pompeii》 ・October 10th + 11th: UK (2 performances) “MEDDLE Tour” ・October 15th – November 20th: North America (27 performances) ←※CLEVELAND 1971 REVISITED, etc. This is PINK FLOYD in 1971. The Amsterdam performance of this work was the 19th performance of “Europe # 2”, four months after “M-502”. This show was an outdoor free concert. There were no ceilings or walls to reflect the sound at the site, and this work also has a lot of on-direct feeling that directly picked up the sound with zero echo. You can fully enjoy the taste of outdoor performances, which is different from “M-502”, which was an indoor performance. Another point is the tremendous stereo feeling. Mono is the standard for audience recordings in the early 1970s, but this work has three sound sources in stereo (strictly speaking, “M-502” was also recorded in stereo, but it was converted to mono when it was made into an LP (for unknown reasons). There is no sense of incongruity like going back and forth between stereo and mono, and because the performance sound is on and close, it is easy to feel the spread to the left and right. Like the great masterpiece “M-502 DEFINITIVE EDITION”, this CD makes the most of the superb recording by “N Brothers” while updating the longest and highest quality of the legendary LP. In fact, the foundational LP “THE EARLY TOURS ’70-’71” is not as well known as “M-502” (perhaps because of the dull LP jacket art), but the sound recorded on it was outstanding for 1971 as a whole. This is the one that “GRAF ZEPPELIN” elevated to a cultural heritage from such an unknown treasure recording. Remastering notes Rec1… A stereo Aud recording by “N Brothers” of the Hamburg performance on February 25, 1971 (commonly known as “M502”), which was included in “THE EARLY TOURS ’70-’71” (a used store staple with its blue jacket) from the LP era. This LP is actually a very high-quality record, characterized by the closeness of the performance and the large stereo separation. This time, Neonknight/Preclicktrack remastered the material transferred and repaired from the master LP of “THE EARLY TOURS ’70-’71” and recorded it mainly from the Sun Anthem onwards. Although it is an analog transcription, there is no needle crackle or trace noise, and the quality is such that it is hard to believe it is an analog transcription when listening normally. Rec2… Although it is a little far away, it is the longest recording of this performance. The performance is concentrated towards the center, but the applause of the audience is separated to the left and right, so it is definitely a stereo recording. This sound source appeared on Ayanami CDR in the 2000s. This time it was used as a supplementary sound source for Rec1 and Rec3 to fill in the gaps between songs that were not included in them. The 2nd Gen sound source transferred by Neonknight from the Marbal collection has been remastered. Rec3… Although the digitization from the tape was released in recent years, it is a stereo Aud sound source that was already included in the rare LP “SYSYPHUS” in the LP era. Again, it is surprising that this sound source is also by “N Brothers” as Rec1, and it is an amazing stereo audience recording with a direct feeling that is closer to the sound of Rec1. Unfortunately, only two songs, Eugene and Simba Line, are recorded. This time, the whole is adopted. This is also a remastered recording of the 3rd Gen sound source transferred by Neonknight from the Marbal collection. By the way, the sound quality of the sound source used this time is much better than the “SYSYPHUS” LP, and it can be said that it is the top level sound of ’71. The best audience recording of “Amsterdam performance on June 26, 1971”. Like the great masterpiece “M-502 DEFINITIVE EDITION”, this is a legendary free concert reproduced by making full use of the three existing recordings, while based on the super thick recording by “N Brothers”. The on-power unique to outdoor festivals is wonderful, and the spectacle realized by the stereo audience of all three sources is tremendous. This is a new masterpiece that will become the “outdoor festival version of M-502”. Amsterdamse Bos, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 26th June 1971 TRULY PERFECT SOUND UPGRADE Super high quality sound.
