Description
In 1972, Floyd, who had been touring from the UK to Japan to the US on the “Unfinished Madness” tour, appeared at a European festival in May, but this edition is a high-quality stereo audience recording of the Berlin performance on May 18, which took place just before the festival. First of all, what is surprising is the sound quality, which is almost like a soundboard recording. Although there is some hiss, it is recorded with a very on sound, and there is no doubt that it is the best microphone recording at that time. For fans who have not heard the “Madness” of this period with this sound, it will be nothing but a shock. (However, there is a 15-second (2:45-3:00) cut of Us And Them, a tape change, which is supplemented by another take from the same day.) The dynamic and tense performance is also wonderful and there is no doubt that it is the best sample of “Madness” in mid-1972. The drawback of this high-quality take is that there are several sound problems caused by missing parts and masters in the second part. It’s a pity that the first 5 minutes of One Of These Days are missing from the master, but this is connected with another recording tape recorded on the same day. (The sound quality of this part is not good.) The cut at 6:28 of Eugene is naturally connected. There are intermittent sound breaks during the 4-minute tuning time, but this is due to the master. There is also a cut at 5:18-6:40 of Echoes, but this is a very good connection of another good quality master (from the same day), so you can enjoy it without stress. There are also sound problems due to tape deterioration or excessive input at 0:33, 3:50, 11:50, 14:33 of Echoes, but even so, this 25-minute Echoes with the highest sound quality is actually the biggest listening point of this board, and it is a tremendous version that all Floyd fans must listen to. The ending of Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun is unpaid, but here it is also well connected with another recording tape on the same day. Although it is not a perfect title, Floyd’s performance during this period, which can be enjoyed with ultra-high sound quality comparable to line recording, is simply a masterpiece. This is a wonderful recording that all Floyd collectors should listen to. Live at Deutschlandhalle, Berlin, Germany 18th May 1972 Disc 1 1. Speak To Me 2. Breathe 3. On the Run 4. Time 5.
