Description

In the 1970s, big British groups would tour in Europe, performing in a neat (or relaxed) way, then suddenly change to an aggressive or wild performance in the US. This was true of ZEP, the Stones, and Pink Floyd, who are releasing a classic sound source from the Animals tour this time. This tendency is particularly evident in Floyd’s tours since 1974. In 1975, the US tour and the production of the album “WHSH YOU WERE HERE” were progressing simultaneously, which exhausted the members of Floyd. However, in 1977, Floyd went on the “In The Flesh” tour, carrying the new album “ANIMALS” with a harder sound, based on new songs that had been performed on stage since 1974 but were not included in “WHSH YOU”. At this time, Nick Mason said, “By the end of the 1975 tour, we didn’t even want to see each other’s faces, but now we’ve come together as a band again.” This time, the tour was also taking place in Europe, and indeed, in photos of the dressing room at this time, Waters and Gilmour were seen putting their arms around each other and praising each other after the live performance. History did not allow them to have such an idyllic situation, but at least when the European tour started in Dortmund on January 23rd, it seems that the atmosphere was quite good. As for Dortmund, our store released the nostalgic “DORTMUNDS”, which conveyed the early part of the tour. Since this tour was performed using more systematic stage equipment than ever before, the members performed at the beginning of the tour with the balance between them and the handling of the new songs, and the performance was at a level that was, at best, fresh, and at worst, unrefined. In particular, Dortmund, the first two days of the tour, had a strong feeling of being scared, and was on a different level from Auckland, the most popular place on this tour. At the beginning of the tour, the band began to feel a sense of unity in the next performance, Frankfurt. Among them, the second day, the January 27th show, is well known as a famous sound source that conveys the careful performance in a good sense at the beginning of the tour, with two outstanding audience recordings of the highest quality. ZEP’s Blueberry Hill is a prime example, but it is a really interesting phenomenon that there are multiple high-level sound sources in one performance. “Recorder 1” has suddenly become popular in the 21st century. Although it has mono sound quality, it captures the performance with a very on sound image, and it is perfect for the hard and rugged band sound of the Animals tour. The quality would have sounded very fresh even for enthusiasts who are accustomed to listening to the next sound source, and we have released it under the title “ZOO”. And “Recorder 2” is another superb audience recording recorded on the two-disc “WELCOME TO THE MACHINE”, which is no exaggeration to call an eternal masterpiece for enthusiasts in the LP era. Although the label name was BULLSHIT RECORDS, this was a masterpiece that conveyed the charm of the early days of the Animals tour, along with the color jacket that featured a close-up of Gilmour. However, as for “recorder 2,” there is no part beyond what was heard on the LP until now, and in the past there was even a CD item with an LP design on the jacket and the contents of “recorder 1.” This also highlights the greatness of “WELCOME TO~”. Our shop has already released “recorder 2” under the title “ZOOROPA.” The missing parts were patched with “recorder 1” to achieve a complete recording of the show, but as was speculated in specialist magazines at the time of the release, “recorder 2” was based on an elaborate tracing of the LP. In fact, there was no scratch noise at all, and it was perfect for playing back that famous sound source digitally. The appeal of “recorder 2” is its astonishing clarity that makes you feel its beauty. Although the sound image is more distant than “recorder 1”, the wide stereo sound that captures the atmosphere of Frankfurt in 1977 is so wonderful that it leaves you speechless. The work is reminiscent of American Dan Lampinski and Steve Hopkins. Although “WELCOME TO~” was released relatively recently in 1987, it is really surprising that the tape source has not been excavated. And this time, two superb sound sources from Frankfurt on January 27th will be released for the first time in a long time, and in a coupling, making it a great deal. Both titles have been out of print for a long time, but it is by no means a simple repackage of the already released version. In particular, for “recorder 1”, the pitch, which was slightly higher than the previous version, was carefully adjusted based on the version transferred from the analog master to DAT. The results are especially evident in the second part after the break. As for “recorder 2”, the patch editing is the same as “recorder 1”, but this was also a title that has been out of print for a long time, so I would like those who have not heard it to experience the enchanting clarity. Above all, since all the titles that captured the stage of the early Animals tour have been sold out recently, this is the best set that allows you to enjoy Floyd’s careful performance to your heart’s content on a superb sound quality CD. From the systematic stage composition to Roger’s appearance of taking on the stage wearing headphones, it was controversial at the time. But what about now, isn’t this the original system of in-ear monitors? Floyd’s Animals tour was always at the forefront of the times. Both of the superb sound sources from Frankfurt, which represent the early days, are of amazing quality, but the recording conditions are completely different, so you will never get tired of listening to them!
