Description
Two versions of the recording of the Lyon, France performance on June 12, 1971, broadcast on the local radio station Europe 1 are included. This is a very valuable 1971 AM radio broadcast sound source, and has been tried to be recorded several times in the past, so it is a familiar sound source to fans. Disc 1 contains the Low Gen take uploaded by a Floyd rare sound source expert just the other day. What you can hear at a glance is the outstanding freshness and increased information content compared to previous sound sources. The grain of the sound completely surpasses the previous release, and for fans who were used to the fluffy and mild Lyon sound source, it can be said that this new version has a surprising texture and color. I was particularly impressed by the ear-piercing high-frequency sound of Wright’s organ. However, because it was an AM radio broadcast of poor quality to begin with, the sound became clearer, and the roughness of the overall sound texture, the content of hiss noise, and the degradation points that were scattered throughout were further emphasized, which is a painful and itchy feeling. However, the Lyon sound source has never been heard so clearly before, so fans should definitely listen to it. According to information on the Internet, it is a digitized version of a TDK D90 obtained from Alain L, a famous Floyd collector in the 1980s, and is probably a “2nd Gen” source. It is written that pitch correction was also performed, but in fact it was recorded at a pitch more than a semitone lower, so we corrected that here. Our shop also released a remastered version of the Lyon sound source in 2014, but that does not mean that it is meaningless at all, and the sound image and quality are more stable in this 2014 version, perhaps due to the difference in the original state of the air check. There are overwhelmingly fewer noises and cuts that were bothersome in the 2017 version, and if you listen to it as background music, the 2014 version is clearly stress-free to listen to. However, because of the muffled sound quality, I think it can be said that, as a collector’s opinion to evaluate the superiority of Gene, the latest version of 2017 is a clear winner. Here, two of the world’s best 1971 Lyon sound sources are compiled in the form of a two-disc set. Both are must-listen and must-have for fans, and are two-disc sets that are the pinnacle of Lyon sound sources.
