From the 1977 “Animals” tour, the two consecutive days of performances at Anaheim Stadium on May 6th and 7th are fully recorded with high-quality audience recordings. In addition, the CD reprints the famous analog boot “CALIFORNIA STOCKYARD” (original black board), which recorded the first day’s performance over 80 minutes with a high-quality audience recording of a different sound source, and a precious video of the next day’s performance shot with an audience shot for 9 minutes is also recorded on DVD. Five CDs and a bonus DVD are available. The first day was recorded with a very stable audience recording with good sound quality. In particular, it is recorded with a tight and powerful sound that seems to be an American performance with a dry feeling of drums and bass, and you can listen to it very comfortably. The intertwining of Pigs’ Gilmour’s guitar cutting and Roger’s hard bass is as solid and cool as I have ever heard, and the wonderful play of the guitar solo in the second half is a must-listen. As with American stadium performances, the voices of the audience are noisy from beginning to end, but they are not recorded louder than the performance, so you can concentrate on the performance. The sticky guitar solo on SOYCD Pt6-9 is also a must-listen. After the first part, Roger also scolds the audience who are fighting in the venue. Another feature of this sound source is that there are no cuts overall, and except for the sound cut caused by the master at 10:09 on SOYCD Pt1-5, it is recorded with a very stable and wonderful recording. The recording of the May 7th performance on the second day is recorded with better sound quality than the first day. At 2:30 on Sheep, unlike usual, it is heard with a strong drum & bass triple hit arrangement, which is quite cool. The guitar play of Dogs is also very wonderful, and the sound quality is good, so it is full of power. There is a sound cut and deterioration due to tape change at 10:38 on Pigs, but overall it is recorded with a very high quality sound image, so you can concentrate on the performance without being bothered by the voice of the audience like on the first day. Disc 5 is the highlight of this set, in a sense, the original black disc of the famous analog bootleg “CALIFORNIA STOCKYARD” recorded directly from the master. As is typical of the analog era, the song order is different from the actual concert, but it is recorded for 80 minutes with a very fresh and wonderful sound quality, and is a great listen from start to finish. Finally, disc 6 contains about 9 minutes of 8mm footage of the second day’s performance. You might think of the scene of the burning pig at the beginning of Pigs, but it is a completely chopped recording and the sound and screen are not synchronized at all, so it is a product for enthusiasts only. However, the footage is very beautiful, and you can see the members’ close-ups, sparks and lighting on stage in vivid images. Although the 8mm footage is for enthusiasts, all five discs are recorded with truly excellent sound quality, so it is an item that collectors should definitely get their hands on.
