Description

Half a century ago in the summer, PINK FLOYD, who brought the dawn of progressive rock to an island country in the Far East, visited Japan for the first time. One piece that updates the all-time high of the legendary Osaka tapes has been decided to be preserved forever. Of course, what is recorded in this work is the “August 9, 1971: Osaka Festival Hall” performance. This is the symbolic audience recording. A treasure of Japanese Western music history whose shows and recordings are now legendary. At our store, our existing releases such as “OSAKA 1971: A NEW TAPE TRANSFER” and “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971” have been widely and deeply loved. If you’ve been paying attention to this article, you’ve probably seen it mentioned in some title more than once. And it is the fate of records that are so iconic that their potential is pursued and upgraded over and over again. It’s the same thing as “Atomic Heart Mother” and “Madness” being pursued in high-quality media and even in various countries. “Osaka 71” has also been upgraded many times in search of the best sound, and this work is the latest and highest updated version. This is a 50th anniversary edition that aims for the ultimate in 2021 by taking every possible means. [Precision transfer of the highest peak 2nd Gene DAT master again] Of course, this work is not just a remastered version of an already released version. First of all, we pursue the “extreme” in terms of materials. I used the same 2nd generation DAT master as “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971”, which has reigned as the “best” to this day. Of course, this is not a reuse of “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971.” Go back to the original DAT master and flat transfer it again. It was precisely and carefully rebuilt using high-end equipment from 2021. The effect is tremendous. When “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971” was released, it became a hot topic for its clear transparency, drastically reduced hiss, and the powerful direct feeling of the performance sound, but this work maintains those good points, and also has an even better transfer. The accuracy has improved. All the notes are different throughout the album, but the easiest way to understand is that it has a stereo feel. For example, “atomic heart mother”. Even in the previous best song, “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971,” the left channel was a little off, resulting in a balance biased toward the right. However, with this transfer, there are no such unstable points. Even with “Atom Heart Mother”, the left channel is picked up sufficiently, and the legendary scene is reproduced accurately and in a well-balanced manner. [2021’s latest mastering technology that maximizes stability] After reproducing the sound saved by 2nd Gene DAT, it is a polishing process with meticulous mastering. Of course, there is no unsophisticated sound pressure gain or flashy equalization (if you do, the flat transfer will be ruined). Instead, it improves pitch and stability. You might think, “This is the usual procedure,” but the accuracy has never been higher. We have thoroughly corrected the sound distortion (wow and flutter) that has been our fate until now. If you have “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971” in your possession, please try playing it. You can see that the acoustic guitar in the opening “Green Is The Colour” intro sounds beautifully, and the notes are slightly wavy. In this 50th anniversary edition, this slight fluctuation is very stable. Of course, we are not fooling ourselves by just fixing the start. On the other hand, if we were to take the final stage as an example, it would be better to start from the 15 minute mark onwards in the second half of “Mystery”. The mysterious keyboard envelops the festival hall in a solemn mood, but the long high-pitched notes are so easy to understand that the shaking is brutal. The conventional version continued to shake finely and continuously, but this work is crisp. This effect changes the nuances of the performance, the sound and even the scene depicted. To use a visual metaphor, what emerges from the “mystery” of the conventional edition is a monochrome world like an ink painting or a recording film. In contrast, this work is in full color. It is also a majestic sound world, like a pipe organ shining in gold in a church. Every time a new master is discovered or a new technology is transferred, I feel renewed excitement, wondering, “How wonderful was Osaka in 1971?” This is the state that the journey of exploration has reached after 50 years of study. That is what this work is. Here you will find the highest master freshness ever, as well as unprecedented reproducibility and stability. This work is the history of the culture of “audience recording” and “vintage record archive”, and is also the cutting edge of its evolution. This world of sound was created because we Japanese have continued to love PINK FLOYD for 50 years. The best audience recording of the legendary first visit to Japan “August 9, 1971 Festival Hall Performance”. This is the highest-quality updated version of the current best 2nd Gene DAT master, which has been recreated with precision transfer and refined through meticulous mastering. While maintaining the beauty of the 2nd master, which has little hiss and is extremely natural, we have thoroughly improved the stereo balance and overall sound distortion (wow and flutter) of “Atom Shinbo”, where the left channel was a little off. You can enjoy the legendary Osaka performance with the best sound of 2021, achieved through 50 years of mastery and the latest technology.
