Description

In 1989, a Japanese record company released an original VHS videotape made directly to DVD to promote Pink Floyd’s live album and video software of the same name, “Delicate Sound of Thunder.” Even though it was probably copied in large numbers and distributed in stores, it is completely unknown even among enthusiasts, and it is not only positioned as an abbreviated version of “Delicate Sound of Thunder”, but also for some reason two promo songs of “Final Cut”. The uniquely edited content, with meaningful inserts in the middle, should be of interest to collectors. The “PINK FLOYD in-store performance video” and a VHS tape with index sheets pasted on the top and back of the video are made into a disc as is, and the recording time is 52 minutes. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part I) starts with a pink light just like the official version, but I was surprised to find that it is an unusually short version that fades out before the 4-note scale appears in the 4th minute. Masu. From the string synth part of SOYCD, the song connects directly to the second song, Signs of Life, without any discomfort, and it is a clever edit that people who don’t know much about Floyd would think, “Is this a song?” Learning To Fly from Signs Of Life should be recorded as a medley like the prologue to the main story, but for some reason, the entire promo of When The Tigers Broke Free from “The Final Cut” period is suddenly inserted here. Just when the world of “depression” suddenly changes to Roger’s passionate vocals and the image film from the war period, Learning To Fly suddenly (and dramatically) plays, and the viewer is shocked by the production. You’re confused because you can’t understand the person’s intentions, and at the same time, you can’t understand what’s going on because the scene unfolds so rapidly. After the full recording of Learning To Fly, there was once again a promo for the title track from “The Final Cut.” Immediately after Gilmour happily performs at a large venue, the way Roger’s melancholy world of lyrics unfolds on screen is nothing short of surreal. The sense and technique of naturally connecting the close-up of the promo for On The Turning Away with the black-and-white footage of “The Final Cut” is amazing, and it’s almost as if they are connected, but of course, both songs are similar to “Pink”. There is almost no connection other than the fact that it is under the name of Floyd, and since the editing technique is so advanced, it leaves me with a lot of question marks when I look at it. Since this is a promotional sample video of a live performance from 1989, the intention may have been to create a promotional video by mixing in the promo for the song from the album that preceded “Utsu”, but the result was very poor. It has some strange contents. (Was your boss telling you to make sure to feature the back catalogue (the overstocked “Final Cut”) at this time? Also, the producer was surprised to insert the “Not Now John” promo. (Maybe he hesitated?) However, as expected, it was only produced by a record company, and the editing and connection techniques for The Dogs Of War, Time, Comfortably Numb, and One Of These Days were sophisticated. , it can be said that this is a very interesting software with an original, Japanese-only charm. This is an interesting item from an easy-going era when people were able to independently plan and promote various things, not just music and movies, but without checking overseas. Although it is an item only for enthusiasts, it is extremely interesting for fans, and I can definitely say that it is a must-see and must-have piece for collectors.
