Description

“THE DIVISION BELL TOUR” was PINK FLOYD’s last world tour. Two live albums will be released at the same time that will give you the best experience of the North American leg. Speaking of “THE DIVISION BELL TOUR,” we have reported on many masterpieces of audience recordings, including soundboards such as the official expanded version “DEFINITIVE PULSE”, “DEFINITIVE TORINO 1994” and “EARLS COURT 1994 BBC RADIO BROADCAST”. Ta. However, most of these are records from the European tour. The two works that appear this time are representative works of the North American leg that are fundamentally different from those. The first part of this work includes “April 14, 1994: San Diego Performance”. This is an exquisite audience recording. First, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule at that time.・March 3rd + 23rd: Rehearsal [“TSUI” released on March 28th] ・March 30th – July 18th: North America (59 performances) ←★Here★・July 22nd – September 25th Japan: Europe (37 performances) October 13th-29th: UK (14 performances) This is the overall picture of “THE DIVISION BELL TOUR”. It is a simple flow of “North America → Continental Europe → UK”, and many soundboard groups were born from Europe in the latter half. On the other hand, the San Diego performance of this work was the 6th concert of the “North American” leg, which was the beginning of the tour. A neat and beautiful recording. There is no close contact that can be mistaken for a sound board, but the subtlety is extremely delicate. Jack Murphy Stadium (currently Qualcomm Stadium), where this film was filmed, is an open space with no walls or ceilings to reflect sound. Therefore, even in a large household of 11 people including support, each note stands out. What is particularly surprising is Guy Pratt’s bass. Audience recording tends to be a weak point, and it would be no surprise if it became explosive or sparse, but this work is neither of those things. The attack sound is crisp and sharp, and the outline of the line is clear. It’s not that the bass is very balanced, and it’s not right in front of you, but it’s not blurry or muddy, and the vibe is beautiful. Of course, the bass isn’t the only thing that stands out. Rather, even Guy, who plays a small supporting role, is a great recording that can be felt so clearly… no, it is a clear recording. On top of that, this work also gives you a sense of the “beauty of space.” Although it is clear with zero echoes, there is a sense of scale because it is not closely connected to the PA, and the spectacle of detailed loud cheers and performance sounds is vast. Gilmore’s singing voice and guitar reach into the wide open space, and from below, gentle yet delicate applause wafts up like May rain. This on-site feeling can never be experienced with official works or soundboards. It is a live album that allows you to immerse your whole body in the “beauty that comes from the audience”. The show drawn with such beautiful sounds is completely different from “PULSE”. Let’s organize the sets while comparing them here. 70’s (13 songs)・Dawn Whistle: Astronomy Domine・Meddling: One Of These Days (★)・Madness: Breathe (In the Air)/Time/The Great Gig In The Sky/Us And Them/Money・Flame : Shine On You Crazy Diamond/Wish You Were Here ・The Wall: Another Brick In The Wall Part 2/Comfortably Numb/Hey You/Run Like Hell From the 80s (8 songs) ・Depression: Learning To Fly/Sorrow/On The Turning Away (★) vs.: What Do You Want From Me?/A Great Day For Freedom/Take It Back (★)/Keep Talking/High Hopes *Note: “★” indicates “PULSE” (CD version) A song you can’t listen to. …and it looks like this. “THE DIVISION BELL TOUR” had a “madness” reproduction night and a regular set night, but most of the North American leg was a regular set (only the last three performances were reproduction sets). You can enjoy the unique composition that incorporates “High Hopes”, “Wish You Were Here” and “Another Brick In The Wall” between the “Madness” numbers. And the guitar that spins such a set is wonderful. The solo of “Sorrow”, the opening of the second part “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, the long solo of “Comfortably Numb” which decorates the end of the main part… You can enjoy the catharsis to your heart’s content that only a beautiful audience can enjoy that combines subtlety and spectacle. A North American show with a different mood and set than Europe, which is familiar with official works and various soundboards. It is a masterpiece of a live album where you can experience the best of 6 performances with a vivid start dash.
