Description
After the death of Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, Phil Anselmo showed a glimpse of his determination to become the storyteller of PANTERA. Introducing the finest original recording and video set where you can experience the latest stage that brought PANTERA numbers to Japan for the first time in 19 years. This work was recorded at the “January 30, 2020: Umeda CLUB QUATTRO” performance. This is a 3-disc set containing the finest audience recording and video. The tour was originally scheduled to come to Japan in April 2019, but was postponed due to the member’s poor health. Furthermore, Phil’s own controversial remarks caused controversy, but he was able to come to Japan with “EXTREME THE DOJO” without incident. This time, there were three performances in total, one in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, and the Osaka performance of this work will be on the last day. Also, this work is a set of a live album and video, but the composition is a little different. Let’s keep it simple here.・DISC 1: Audience recording (solo set) ・DISC 2: Audience recording (PANTERA set) ・DISC 3: Audience shot (PANTERA set) The show is completely separated in the second half, and the first half is the current THE ILLEGALS and The sets I produced were “WALK THROUGH EXITS ONLY” and “CHOOSING MENTAL ILLNESS AS A VIRTUE.” And, in the second half, only PANTERA numbers are featured. This work is a total of 3 discs, including a live album containing the full set and the best footage of the PANTERA set. [DISC 1-2: Full Live Album] First up is a 2-disc full live album. This is already the best. After all, the person who recorded this work is “Western Japan’s Strongest Taper”, a master among masters who is second to none when it comes to recording HR/HM. He is a recorder who is always praised for being “like a soundboard” and “sounding better than the scene”, but in particular, “Umeda Quattro”, which is the site of this work, is his garden. His skill is sharp and clear, and he has created a superb sound that is thicker, thicker, and straighter than ever before. In fact, it’s a bit loud for his collection, but that’s the sound the band produces. Of course, it’s not a mistake or anything, but the roar of the bubbly biting that makes me want to bite is beautifully captured by a real mom. As proof of this, there is no chatter in the explosive peaks, and even the slightest control of the distorted guitar can be delicately understood. It is clear that the roar that the band intended was beautifully recorded, as it becomes much cleaner when changing to the PANTERA set. Moreover, the dynamism of the PANTERA set is too wonderful. At first listen, it feels like the sound is being sprinkled with brutality, but the exquisite degree of distortion creates a undulation, and the careful attention to the beat gives the groove a mellow elasticity. . In this work, the subtleties are accurately captured, and the sound board of Sonjosoko is depicted with a direct feeling that makes you run away barefoot. What’s so amazing about the show that is drawn with such a brutal sound? The highlight, of course, is PANTERA wide open. Let’s organize the noteworthy sets here. Solo set (6 songs)・WALK THROUGH EXITS ONLY: Walk Through Exits Only・CHOOSING MENTAL ILLNESS AS A VIRTUE: Little Fucking Heroes/Choosing Mental Illness/The Ignorant Point/Photographic Taunts/Mixed Lunatic Results PANTERA set (11 songs)・Cowboys from Hell: Domination/Vulgarity: Mouth for War/Walk/Hollow/A New Level ・Brainkiller: Becoming/Strength Beyond Strength ・Sickle Head: (Reprise) Sandblasted Skin ・Gekitetsu: We’ll Grind That Ax for a Long Time/Yesterday Don’t Mean Shit/Goddamn Electric…and so on. For convenience, we have also separated songs such as “Domination / Hollow” which are naturally played in the set, so it is not accurate, but it is a selection evenly selected from all works from major debut work “Cowboys from Hell” to “Gekitetsu” The set is rich and intense. Especially since it was the last day in Osaka, they had the most songs, and they even performed “(Reprise) Sandblasted Skin,” which they didn’t perform in Tokyo and Nagoya. And even more than that is “We’ll Grind That Ax For A Long Time” which marks the start of PANTERA’s set! Not only has it not been performed in Tokyo or Nagoya, but it has also been premiered worldwide… or rather, it is an extremely rare song that has not been performed even during the PANTERA era. As of now, they have not performed live since leaving Japan, and this is truly a one-time live performance. You can enjoy such an ultimate rare performance with the best sound. [DISC 3: Spectacular Audience Shot] Disc 3 allows you to witness the PANTERA set from the special seats. Anyway, this is the ultimate in spectacular scenery. This is also an original master that was directly given to me by the photographer, but I was in the front row of the second floor seats, passing directly over the heads of the first floor seats with no obstructions and looking directly at the stage. Moreover, the sense of stability is excellent, and the zoom that closely approaches the highlight is extremely precise. If it wasn’t provided by the photographer himself, it’s such a spectacular view that you’d think it was a staff shot setting up the venue. What makes the images even better is the audio. The “strongest” Mr. master on disks 1-2 is synchronized, raising the quality to the ultimate quality of super-stunning scenery and super-excellent sound. And because it’s a video, Phil’s unchanging charismatic appearance is vivid. Even in the live album of Discs 1-2, I could feel the depth of his voice, and his majestic performance was unique. Although he doesn’t go wild in a flashy way, the way he points at the audience, the timing when he nods with satisfaction, and the expression on his face when he lets out a roar… each one of them brings back the PANTERA era, and there is no doubt that he is none other than “that Anselmo.” It’s full of emotion. It was the dark 90’s when METALLICA shouted, “Let’s change our name to Rocktalica,” and made Rob Halford, the god of steel, say, “Metal is dead.” In the midst of all this, SLAYER and PANTERA were the only ones who roared, “We’re metal. Are there any complaints?” I think there are pros and cons to Phil singing PANTERA’s songs, but now that Vinnie and Dimebag are gone, if he doesn’t sing, no one will be able to take over.
