“Paul’s real face sings R&B”… Such is the side project PAUL STANLEY’S SOUL STATION. The precious live album and video are here. This work contains the “February 28, 2017 Pasadena performance”. This is a superb live album made into a CD directly from the original master only available at our shop. Anyway, the records of PAUL STANLEY’S SOUL STATION are extremely valuable. The reason for this is the activity itself. First of all, let’s check the overview.・May-June 2015: KISS (15 shows in Europe) – about 3 months later – ・September 11, 2015: West Hollywood ・October 3-16, 2015: KISS (8 shows in Oceania) – about 4 months later – ・February 26, 2016: San Juan Capistrano ・February 27, 2016: Agoura Hills ・February 28, 2016: Pasadena [Disc 1 of this work] A total of 4 shows. The first live was held in September 2015, but this was during the “40TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR”. It was a fun show between the European leg and the Oceanian leg. After that, 4 months had passed since the KISS 40th anniversary tour, and only 3 shows were held again. This work is a two-disc set with the live album of the final performance, “February 28, 2016: Pasadena Performance” on disc 1 and the audience video collection on disc 2. [Disc 1: Live album of the Pasadena performance] Only four performances, and all small club-sized shows. Even the fact that the recordings were left behind is extremely valuable. However, the quality of this work is a superb product that makes you forget such preciousness. It is an audience recording that absorbs the atmosphere unique to a small club, but the close direct feeling … no, the close feeling is definitely sound board class. Moreover, unlike KISS, the audience is listening to the moist R & B standard, and it is crystal clear. It really feels like “Paul is in front of you”. SOUL STATION is a large group of more than 10 people including a mixed chorus (drums are Eric Singer), but the large number of people stand on a small stage and sing and play. The closeness that seems to be touched if you stretch out your hand is fully absorbed. The show depicted with such a sound is a dazzling world of R&B. There are no KISS or solo numbers, and the show is simply a super famous R&B song. Unlike the usual wild KISS, Paul’s dandy singing voice is exquisite. That characteristic falsetto is very sexy. Combined with the beautiful sound of this work, “I want it to be left as it is officially” … It is a concert full of adult sexiness that makes you think so. [Disc 2: Video collection of all 4 performances] The following disc 2 is a collection of videos that allow you to witness such a sexy space in a “scene”. It is not a single concert, but a collection of videos of 2-3 songs selected from all 4 performances. Therefore, it is not possible to say “the angle is ○○” or “the image quality is △△”, but one thing can be said is “all are wonderful”. In both cases, the vivid image quality of the latest digital equipment depicts the colorful space of “Paul’s style R&B”. Particularly striking is “February 26, 2016: San Juan Capistrano performance”. It’s a close-up shot taken almost from the front, and the scene is almost a professional shot. There are also images of mid-range and circular seats at other performances, but it’s not a rock show where you raise your arms, so you can look straight at Paul without any obstructions. The show depicted with that quality is extremely professional. As mentioned above, even though it’s a project of only these four performances, the song arrangements, performances, and even the stage direction are well-crafted. There is no “let’s try it out” mood that is common in side projects, and it’s a stage as if R&B is his main job. There is no KISS-like color in this work, but the perfectionism is undoubtedly Paul Stanley himself. “Paul’s R&B” is extremely valuable with only four performances. It is a masterpiece that depicts the perfect and sexy stage with a live album and video. It’s interesting in the sense of exploring the “roots of KISS”, but more than that, it’s a one that allows you to immerse yourself in the “ultimate R&B show”.
