Description
This DVD contains a BBC special program made when the band visited the UK to release their hugely popular album “STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS,” which was awarded the Grammy Album of the Year. What’s more, what you see here is based on a rare version that was broadcast in Japan. This was broadcast in the “One-Man Show of the World” slot, just like Paul McCartney’s “JAMES PAUL McCARTNEY,” which we previously released. It was recorded on a home video deck, which was expensive at the time. As enthusiasts will probably guess from the fact that the “DEPAS” logo appears several times on the screen, this is a video by a mysterious taper (can we call it that?) who recorded the 1972 Japanese performances of the Bee Gees, Chicago, ELP, and Free, and left them for posterity. To tell the truth, it is highly likely that there is no footage of this 1975 BBC special left in the UK, so it’s surprising that the Japanese version recorded by a wealthy fan is extremely valuable. It seems that the footage of the BBC talk show “PARKINSON,” which he appeared on at the same time, still exists, but there is no sign of it being rebroadcast in his home country. When it was broadcast in Japan in 1976, a Japanese bootleg LP “THE ART OF SUPERB SIMON” was released, which was a recording of the sound from the broadcast, which is very nostalgic. The show itself has a stronger feel of the album “STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS” than “SATURDAY NIGHT” from 1975. The musicians who participated in the album also participated in the recording of the show, and the drummer Steve Gadd is introduced in the subtitles as “Steve Gadd,” which makes you feel the era. What’s even more must-see is the appearance of Tony Levin, who has no moustache but has hair on both sides (the top is already bald lol). It’s amazing how refreshing he is, a completely different person from the eccentric look he had after Crimson! And at the time, the S&G reunion attracted a lot of attention with the release of “My Little Town,” but it must have been difficult to keep up with Art in the UK. Instead, the content of the program, which repurposed scenes from “SATURDAY NIGHT,” gives us a glimpse into the reality of the S&G reunion, which never progressed beyond the release of “My Little Town.” Live at BBC London, UK 27th December 1975 Broadcast Date: 20th July 1976 (38:54) 1.
