Description

The newly formed Wings went on their first tour as a band in 1972. However, even though the tour was called a tour, it was not a pre-scheduled one, but rather a surprise concert where everyone got on a bus and visited universities around the UK, negotiating on the spot. It is not a commercial project, but rather has a strong character to help new bands get used to the audience. At this point, the only album released was “WINGS WILD LIFE,” and due to the small repertoire, the same song was performed twice, making it more like a friendly traveling entertainer’s concert tour than a full-fledged show. It was like that. Then, in the summer of 1972, Wings went on a full-scale tour. This will be their first official tour. This tour was to visit various countries in Europe, and was divided into two tours in July and August. What should be noted here is that the country of origin, the United Kingdom, is not included. He disliked the British media, which had been harsh towards Paul since before and after the Beatles disbanded, and chose Europe, where criticism was less harsh. They probably thought that if they received bad reviews on their first tour, the band would lose confidence and become discouraged. This is because Paul himself, who is a professional, should have known best about the band’s ability. Listening to the remaining recordings of the 1972 European tour, the direction of the band is not determined, the original songs are weak, there are no hit songs other than “My Love”, and above all, the band’s performance, including Linda. The workmanship is not up to the standard that Paul probably would have wanted. They’ll probably be testing their strength in Europe before holding a concert in the UK. Originally, the purpose of Wings was to carry out live activities that were abandoned during the Beatles era, and Paul must grow this band in a short period of time. In parallel with the tour, recording was also carried out energetically. I don’t know if he was conscious of the fact that his former comrades were actively releasing albums, especially George releasing big albums such as 3-disc sets, but around this time, Paul decided to release a 2-disc set as Wings’ next album. I was thinking. In the actual live performance, many of the songs scheduled to be recorded are played live. Although there are historically unreleased songs, Paul at this time was passionate about new challenges, as the MC introduced them as “songs from the next album.” However, Paul was forced to compromise because his previous work, “WINGS WILD LIFE,” failed in terms of sales and did not get off to a smooth sailing. First, name your band after your name. As a result, “WINGS” was changed to “PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS.” What was originally planned to be a two-disc set was forced to be condensed into a single album. Record companies couldn’t take the risk either. The result was “RED ROSE SPEEDWAY”. This album is still regarded as one of Paul’s best works, with “My Love” becoming the No. 1 hit in the United States and hailed as the best song since “Yesterday,” as well as a medley in the second half reminiscent of Abbey Road. In terms of sales, it greatly exceeded the previous work. And Wings, officially Paul McCartney & Wings, will go on tour again immediately after the release of this album. For a while after Wings debuted, the media deliberately avoided the harsh British culture, but in order to take the band to the next level, success in the UK, which has a large entertainment market, is inevitable. Just as the Beatles progressed from Liverpool to London to the United States, they needed to succeed in England, not just locally, but in London. Although there are only two albums at this point, there are many original songs. There are also hit songs. Above all, success in the UK is a journey that the band has no choice but to take. Meanwhile, the first domestic tour in the UK in conjunction with the album “RED ROSE SPEEDWAY” was held from May 1973. Since this is a domestic tour, it will be small, with only 15 performances. The set list was also short, just over an hour. Still, in addition to the album, there will be a variety of other songs including the movie’s theme song “They’re the ones who die” and other songs, and it will be possible to see Paul, the “hero of the village,” on stage for the first time since his Beatles days, so it will be a big hit in various places. It seems like it was a great success. The tour generally consists of one performance per city, with the exception of Manchester being held for two days. Check out the tour dates here. The plan was to attack from the local areas and reach the central government, just like Kakuei Tanaka’s election strategy. This work includes the very earliest dates, the second day of the tour, which was the first appearance, on May 12, 1973, at Oxford. It was still an early stage of the tour, and this was the first time they had played songs from the album “RED ROSE SPEEDWAY.” “Big Barn Bed” and “When The Night” are rare songs that will probably never be played again, and are exclusive to this tour. “Live And Let Die” and “Hi Hi Hi” are concert highlights that are still performed on Paul’s stage today, but I want you to enjoy the differences in the arrangement from about 50 years ago, including the way the ending ends. .
