Description
Wings in the analog era, 1976 Over America Tour’s rare masterpiece “WINGS FROM THE WINGS” was a bootleg made by a woman named Andrea. She was a friend of John Wizard of Wizardo, who was active at the same time, and seeing him continue to actively release music, she came up with the idea of releasing music herself, and released under the name of Vicki Vinyl, which was the first in history. It was the birth of the female bootlegger. Earlier this year, John Wizard answered an interview online, and once again it became clear how active he and Andrea were in releasing music. Her first label brand was Idle Mind Productions (IMP). The label used illustrations of women, which was proof that the label was run by a woman, and “WINGSFROM THE WINGS” was chosen as the brand’s first product. The fact that it was a luxurious box set of three records was enough to make it an attractive item, but the final blow came in 1976, the 200th anniversary of the nation’s founding, and the colors of the American flag, red and blue. , it was released on white colored vinyl. Not only did it contain the latest tours conducted by members of the Beatles, but it was also an extremely attractive item, which made it a huge bestseller. If you just put it in a box, the item already existed. However, in Andrea’s case, she wears tricolor vinyl to match the American flag, which is very feminine. It is a well-known story that the release of “WINGSFROM~” and its huge success prompted the release of the official “OVER AMERICA”. As expected, after its official appearance, it became an item of the past, and I can’t help but feel that it was finally overlooked when the CD era arrived. Although analog items were once released in the 1990s, including the “WINGS FROM~” box package, this also attracted attention due to excessive equalization that made the needle sound less noticeable. It disappeared without a trace. This situation changed after the sound source of the same day recorded by Mike Millard appeared in the late 1990s. Since it is a sound source from the same day as “WINGSFROM~”, it is customary for a mirrored sound source to be released with the same jacket design and title. If this is the case, many enthusiasts may be under the impression that “WINGS FROM~” used a mirrored sound source even on the LP. But it’s different. Pure Trader Millard’s sound source appeared in the bootleg world much later, in the early 1980s, with the release of “LISTEN TO THIS, EDDIE”. The sound source used for “WINGS FROM ~” is a completely different audience recording, and it is probably speculated that John Wizard recorded it for Andrea. Unlike TMOQ etc., the original source of the sound source recorded by John is not distributed among traders at all, and this is also true for this performance. I hope this helps you understand that the titles and packages currently being released under the title “WINGS FROM THE WINGS” are not original LPs, but include mirrored sound sources, but regarding his recordings… Finally, the master cassette was discovered, and it was released last week as “L.A. FORUM 1976 1ST NIGHT” and is now a huge bestseller. Therefore, this time we are planning to release a CD version of “WINGS FROM THE WINGS” that is authentic in terms of packaging and content. For its release, we compared both the original LP box as well as the Remasters Workshop version, which was a huge bestseller when released previously. When it was released at the time, the reason was that the beginning of the song was missing due to a problem during uploading, but this time, of course, we obtained a file that did not have such problems. Once again, I was surprised at how cleanly the vintage LP boot was traced. So this time too, I decided to base it on the Remasters Workshop version. Additionally, the site that had been used to upload Remasters Workshop files in the fall of this year went down, and the situation has completely changed to the point where it is difficult to obtain them. In that sense, it can be said that there is significance in making the Remasters Workshop version available on CD. For this release, first of all, we have carefully adjusted the pitch deviation that was overlooked in the Remasters Workshop version. Next, the cuts in the songs that were on the original LP remained the same, but for the biggest cut, “I’ve Just Seen a Face,” we replaced the mirrored sound source and succeeded in connecting it smoothly. That’s what I did. Last week’s free gift CD-R was popular, and “L.A. FORUM 1976 2ND NIGHT”, which will continue this week, had cuts when the same song was played, but when recording the Over America tour, it is easy to hit the tape change. I’ve Just~”. In that respect, I was reminded of the greatness of Millard, who previewed the concert in San Diego and recorded the June 23rd uncut. And although it is the audience recording used for the LP, of course it cannot match the amazing closeness of the sound image like the mirrored sound source. However, while that sound image was too close and I felt unsatisfied with the sense of presence in some places, this one more realistically conveys the enthusiasm of the last day of the Over America tour. However, there were no annoying customers, and the sense of distance between the performers was exquisite. Above all, the sound quality is warm. Vintage audiences and old enthusiasts who are analog in a good sense will enjoy it full of nostalgia. Also…I know what I’m saying, but listening to a three-LP box set is a bit of a hassle (lol). In that respect, this is a two-CD set with minimal changes. The advantage of a CD that can be listened to quickly is fully exploited.
