Description
Speaking of legendary taper Mike Millard’s recording of Paul’s LA Forum, “LA FORUM 1989 FINAL NIGHT MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES” was released just a few months ago, but for many enthusiasts, it is the 1976 Wings. , it is probably a sound source that captures the LA Forum on June 23rd, which is the final stage of the Over America tour. Ever since the release of Mirrored Master by JEMS began, there must be a lot of enthusiasts who have been waiting for the release of this sound source. Nowadays, on June 23rd (the date is the same as ZEP’s LA Forum a year later!) Millard’s sound source has become well-established among enthusiasts, but before that, it was the legendary LP box. “WINGS FROM THE WINGS” was a well-known performance due to the sound source heard there, but this is the one that suddenly became major after entering the CD era. The first release was the ancient dynamite studio album “WINGS OVER AMERICA II”. After that, mirrored sound sources became the mainstream of June 23rd items, and it became customary for mirrored sound sources to be released under the name “WINGS FROM THE WINGS”. Speaking of Millard’s LA Forum sound source, “LISTEN TO THIS, EDDIE” is an immortal masterpiece, but the Wings recording that was made a year ago is also excellent. It takes full advantage of the characteristics of his beloved AKG 451, such as the closeness of the sound image and the fact that it picks up almost no ambient noise, and as a 1976 audience recording, it can even be called artistic. There is no doubt that it is a recording that is truly like a “sound board” and is a rare masterpiece that everyone from beginners to enthusiasts can listen to with confidence. At the time of this release, the episode at the time of recording was also revealed. First of all, Millard apparently performed a preview of the Wings show at the San Diego performance a week ago (which can be heard on the original sound source “SAN DIEGO 1976”) and performed a recording simulation. On top of that, on the 23rd, he lined up all night to get tickets to secure a good position. In this way, the mirrored sound source has become a standard for June 23rd since the turn of the 21st century, but one of the few drawbacks of this famous recording is that the left channel is turned off as soon as Paul starts singing “Magneto And Titanium Man”. This is a problem that arose from “WINGS OVER AMERICA II”, which seems to have been based on a copy of the cassette dubbing. The subsequent June 23rd item was based on the version that Millard had dropped onto VHS from the first generation copy he had made for trade rather than the master, but a similar phenomenon occurred with items recorded from there. This area was made into a physical object to make it less noticeable. The problem with this master is that from the time of release, JEMS has made that part a thing and made it less noticeable. In other words, this master proved that there was a problem from the time of recording. However, the sound quality itself is a wonderful upper feeling that can be understood at first listen. Really clean and natural. Also, the level of hiss is low. Additionally, the versions that have been released so far have some of the buzzing noise that is typical of VHS. Of course, this version doesn’t have that. It just makes me realize the power of the master tape. Speaking of this tour, there is an official movie called “ROCK SHOW” in the live album “WINGS OVER AMERICA”, but even with those, the reason why the value of the mirrored recording does not fade at all is not limited to the sound quality. After all, those officials had completely replaced Linda and Denny Lane’s backing chorus in the studio upon release, and there was a tendency to be too beautiful than the two backing choruses heard on the actual stage. When you listen to the actual chorus and harmony with this sound source, it is certainly loose and there are some dangerous scenes, but this is what live is all about. Also, while both releases were edited versions that interweaved recordings from multiple performances, this one has a high value as you can listen to the original performance. Especially since it was the last day of the hugely successful Over America tour. In fact, the performance here is dignified and worthy of the Chiakigaku tour that took the United States by storm in 1976. The scene where Paul shouts “Feedback!” in response to the howling that echoed in the middle of “Let Me Roll It” is famous, but such leeway is unique to the last day of the tour. In addition, the performance and instrument tones are more vivid than the official one throughout, which is the pride of the Millard recording, and the best audience recording that fully inhaled the atmosphere of the LA Forum on June 23, 1976 is exceptional. The excitement of the members of Wings, including Paul, was quite high, and when it came to the last day of the tour and the two encore songs came out, they were already in high spirits. As for Paul, his passionate singing like complete combustion is amazing, and his voice is hoarse in the finale “Soily”. Although the take of June 23rd was not adopted for the encore part in each official, it is this kind of passionate singing of Paul that I would like to release. Also, it is unique to Millard’s best audience that Joe English’s powerful drumming feels more vivid than the previous official. The June 23rd mirrored sound source has now become the most standard sound source of the Over America tour, but the recording from the master cassette that enthusiasts all over the world have been waiting for has finally been realized. That eye-opening uppercut is truly amazing. For this reason, for this release, we have elevated the finest sound source to a state where you can enjoy it with even more peace of mind, albeit at a fine level such as finely adjusting the pitch. The world has been waiting for the release of the master version of Millard’s masterpiece recording, which captures the peak of Wings with the highest sound quality!
