Description

Paul McCartney’s performance in Japan was truly amazing. Although the interval was a little shorter than the one announced at Kohaku at the end of last year, every performance was a great success. What’s more, this time, the first stop of the 2017 world tour is not only Japan, but also the surprising schedule of the tour opening at Budokan. Above all, I was surprised that Paul’s Budokan performance was happening again. Being able to see his live performance at Budokan is so appealing. Even though many enthusiasts were weary of the high ticket prices, they still went to Budokan on April 25th. The Budokan performance in 2015, which was canceled in 2014, quickly became a legendary night, and this one was once again a wonderful night. Above all, since this was the first day of the tour, they were so excited that they even rented the Budokan to rehearse the day before. On the other hand, this time there was no time-consuming procedure to exchange tickets before entering like last time (back then we had to wait in line for a long time at the back of the Budokan). Thanks to the system in which tickets were received inside, the live performance was able to start at 19:00, about 30 minutes later than originally scheduled, which was quite an excellent performance. After all, the live performance at Budokan is really special. When it became the first live stage of 2017, the excitement was tremendous. After all, the venue was small, so there was a real heat in the air, and it was so hot that I was wearing long sleeves. Paul has now been coming to Japan every other year since 2013. When you think about it, it feels like a world away from ten years ago. This is also the second time for the Budokan performance. Even so, I can’t help but feel excited about what kind of stage will unfold. In the end, as you might have guessed from the tour name, this Budokan gig had a setlist plusα that followed the “ONE ON ONE” tour from last year. Although it was expected, the opening of the Beatles classic “A Hard Day’s Night” had the best impact on the Japanese audience. I don’t think there’s a music fan out there who doesn’t get excited when this song is played. From there, “Jet” and then “Junior’s Farm”, which is a mania. Furthermore, it has been a long time since 1993 that “Drive My Car” has been played live in Japan. I thought it was a Budokan gig and the setlist was special, but I never expected that the only song in the first half of the day would be “Drive My Car”… Lol Regarding Budokan, the sound source appeared on the same day the gig ended, making it a situation that symbolizes 2017. The sound source heard here is “LIVE AT BUDOKAN 2017”, which our store has already released as both an item and a gift on CD-R. The amazing thing about this sound source is not just the speed of its appearance. Above all, the sound quality is high. Of course, the sound image is on, but above all, Paul’s singing voice is on, which is the charm of the balance, and even though it is the first audience recording of a Budokan gig, it has a high quality that can already be used as a guideline. He was proud of it. Furthermore, the level of the previous sound source must also be cleared. In that respect, I think this release will not disappoint. The taper is a familiar figure in our store items, including the 2009 Clapton & Beck Saitama high-quality album “LIVE TOGETHER”. The recording he made from the second row of Arena B1 block was a perfect location with no one in front of him. The audience recording delivered as a result is truly exceptional quality. While the first sound source mentioned above (hereinafter referred to as “No. 1”) had vocals on, the details of the entire performance were unexpectedly fuzzy and contoured. For example, the clatter of Rusty Anderson’s guitar during the “Tuesday afternoon is never ending” part of “Lady Madonna” was a little buried in the first issue, but it can be heard clearly in this version. Put it away. That alone makes the difference in sound quality clear. Also, in the first issue, the clapping and other sounds had a tendency to sound a little shaky at times, and in that respect, it is undeniable that the sound quality was very “Internet-like”. However, I would like to say that this time’s sound source is suddenly clear and clear, and the sound quality with a natural sharpness is also a big attraction. And a fulfilling acoustic corner that could be called the highlight of this Japan performance. It may be said that it is a miraculous balance to be able to capture that warm sense of reality without disturbing the surrounding fans. At Budokan, the homely excitement of this corner was the best, but the Budokan special “Every Night” was especially moving. In a complete turn of events, Paul’s interruption of the song actually caused a lot of laughter, and the sense of realism in “Blackbird” was even more thrilling. Immerse yourself in the memories of that moving Budokan gig with our original sound source that plays back the first day of the tour with natural and clear sound quality.
