Description

During the world tour from 1989 to 1990, when Paul resumed live activities, the 1989 tour seemed to be a transition from cassette to DAT for the audience recording media, and because it was a tour of large venues, there were fewer sound sources with better sound quality than expected. That’s why “L.A. FORUM 1989 3RD NIGHT” was literally an audience recording of exceptional quality, but when it comes to the European tour before the United States, such high-level audience recordings become even fewer. The Paris performance, which was one of the few DAT recording audiences at this time, was released in real time, and the result was that enthusiasts were aware of the power of the new weapon called DAT, but that was a rare example, and the Zurich performance was the average audience recording at the time. This is a muffled sound quality that seems to have been recorded with a cassette Walkman. At the same time, it can be said that the quality reminds us that the most popular recording medium at the time was the Walkman. Therefore, compared to this “L.A. FORUM 1989 3RD NIGHT”, the audience is a typical B-grade quality. However, the sound image in Zurich is very close. The sound image is muffled and on, so at first glance, it feels like you are listening to an AM radio broadcast. In fact, AM radio was still alive and well at the time. In addition, the surrounding audience is normally excited between songs, but when the performance starts, the clapping fades out (lol) and they become quiet all at once. However, during “The Long and Winding Road”, the audience continues to talk, giving a sense of realism that is hard to understand, and the main focus is on quietness. Therefore, it is not a sound source that can be described as excellent, but it is still a strangely easy-to-listen-to audience recording. The basic pitch is out of sync, and the inconsistent state has been properly adjusted, making it even more enjoyable. On this day, the music video for “Figure Of Eight” was filmed, which made Paul and the other members on stage feel a little nervous right after the live started. Perhaps Paul let his guard down after the filming, but it’s interesting to see him make some simple mistakes. In “The Fool On The Hill,” he misses the piano at the end of the performance, and above all, he makes a mistake in the lyrics of “Eleanor Rigby.” It’s also interesting that Linda’s singing voice sounds louder than usual in this song and “Coming Up,” and the sound is so close that it’s even easier to hear. Although it was only a month before the LA Forum, this album captured a different atmosphere in every sense. Hallenstadion, Zurich, Switzerland 29th October 1989 TRULY AMAZING SOUND Disc 1 (70:54) 1.
