Paul’s Out There tour, which was thought to be the end of his live activities in 2015 at Lollapalooza in July, seems to have been completed by touring the US again this October. The first day of the tour, October 13th, was recorded from the audience recording that had just appeared in Columbus. Since it was the first day of the tour, many enthusiasts have probably already heard it, but this is a very excellent recording. Although it is not as impressive as the recording state that combines both the sound image and the sense of realism like the Seoul after the Japan performance, the sound image is very on! The moderate echo of the venue is comfortable, and yet the excitement around the surroundings is not piercing, and the latest tour CD release has been decided in front of the audience recording that boasts ideal sound quality! For enthusiasts, the topic of this fall’s US tour is the Detroit on the 17th, where they played “Mull Of Kintyre”, and the first day of the release this time may seem like a live performance that is just the first day of the tour without any particular points. Of course, we also get a glimpse of the first-day-only happenings, such as Paul getting the lyrics wrong in the opening song “Eight Days A Week”. However, there was a fun incident that was even more unbelievable for us Japanese people. OKI MASHITA! The first half of the concert was still being held under the influence of the Budokan, but after “One After 909” ended, Paul made a surprising statement. “Do you all know the Japanese morning greeting? It’s “Ohayo!”,” he explained. At first, you might think, “?” However, Paul’s MC was inspired by the fact that the place where this concert was held, Columbus, is located in Ohio, that is, the word “Ohio” and the pronunciation of “Ohayo” are similar. In other words… this was a moment when he boldly made an old man joke, or rather, an old man joke (excuse me) considering Paul’s age. Indeed, from the Japanese perspective, “Ohayo” and “Ohio” are similar. However, when such a pun was said, the people who packed the venue in Columbus were probably frozen in a “?” state (in fact, their reaction was slow). In other words, this release is a scene that will make us Japanese people laugh out loud. Rather, from this scene, it seems that Paul’s performance in Japan at the end of April is a very fond memory. Speaking of Paul, he has a tendency to like to use “Osu!”, which he learned when he was arrested in 1980, but it’s nice to see him use a word that is more popular with Japanese people now. Perhaps he really liked this word, because when he was inciting the audience with “Hey Jude” in the second half of the live, he said “Ohio” with a perfect “good morning” intonation. And the whole live was very enjoyable, and it was new to see “Four Five Seconds,” which was a big hit at Lollapalooza, being played much longer than it was then, as a complete repertoire song, but the Columbus audience didn’t get it (laughs). Rather, “Maybe I’m Amazed” is amazing here! Anyway, Paul’s passionate singing was overwhelming, and it may be the best performance of this song this year. Moreover, the venue was excited from this point, so the drop in the excitement of “Four Five Seconds” played later stood out. However, Paul was in top form after that, and his voice was in good condition even in the encore “Another Girl”, and this area was also caught as a scene unique to the first day of the tour, so you can’t miss it. A live performance from Paul’s latest tour where an unexpected joke popped out, and this happening MC that only Japanese people can understand is really funny!
