Description

From the concert that was only held a few times by the trio of Pat, Charlie, and Billy that was held in conjunction with the release of the masterpiece “Rejoicing” from ECM, it is a vivid and superb high that will make you feel as if you are listening to the two Boston performances on the spot. A wonderful title that is almost completely recorded with high quality sound is now available for the first time! ! This is Metheny’s solo work that was done in parallel with PMG, and was released in 1983 as an acoustic project following “80/81″ released in 1980, and the same members as Metheny’s “Rejoicing”. A trio with Ornette Coleman’s Charlie Haden and Billy Higgins performed at Boston’s Paradise Theater on April 25, 1984, with such vivid high-quality sound that you’ll feel like you’re actually listening to it on the spot. We now have a 2-disc set with stereo sound that has been carefully mastered by the label and is almost completely recorded up to the encore for over an hour and a half! The song begins with “Forward March,” where Metheny’s guitar and synth roar, which was played at the opening of PMG’s live shows at the time, but he played something that gave off a mysterious atmosphere that was completely different from what he played at PMG. However, on the contrary, the first half includes Hayden’s “Blues for Putt,” which was also included in “Rejoicing,” and the extremely rare “James” and “All the Things You.”・Ah” and “Change of Heart”, Metheny is able to show off his guitar to the fullest, showing off his personality as a contemporary guitarist and leader while playing against two great masters. Moving on to the second half, which leads to the strange atmosphere of that opening, Hayden and Higgins finally show their true potential, and from the over 20-minute “The Calling”, a tense interplay explodes as the three of them clash seriously. What is PMG, which focuses on the entire band ensemble, where you can listen to Horace Silver’s “Lonely Woman” and Metheny’s spectacular play that reveals another side of Metheny, who until then had hidden his claws as a brainy hawk? On the contrary, Metheny, who is a guitarist himself, gave a performance that brought tears of joy to the fans! The encore ended with a gentle and beautiful tune, “Phase Dance,” after the storm had passed…The performers and audience were close to each other in the small box, so both the performers and the audience felt nervous, but relaxed from beginning to end. It is also an interesting item as a document of how the best live performance is produced under the conditions!
