Description

After a warm-up gig in Japan, Pat Metheny’s new project, Side Eye, which made its full debut in the United States starting with a performance in New York on March 22nd, will be the second part of the U.S. tour. A performance in Annapolis, Maryland is now available! ! ! Japan in 2019 was all about Pat Metheny early in the new year. Metheny came to Japan with a variety of programs prepared, but what attracted the most attention not only from fans but also from fans all over the world was the latest project that will be making its world premiere, Metheny and James Frances. , it was “Side Eye” by a trio with Nate Smith. The performance was so amazing that it quickly spread around the world via the internet. Two months later, the US tour finally began in New York on March 22nd. A total of 17 performances are scheduled, and the tour is still in progress, but the second stop from this tour will be held on April 5th, the 13th day of the tour, at Ram’s Head in Annapolis, Maryland. An hour and a half passionate performance that just took place on stage (the Japanese performance was approximately 70 minutes). The highest quality stereo master that sets it apart from the sound sources that are secretly circulating among fans has been carefully mastered by the label, making it feel like you are listening to the performance right in front of your eyes. A 2-disc set completely recorded in the highest quality stereo sound has arrived! ! ! The concert started with a talk from Pat, Nate, one of the greatest drummers of our time, and James, who was like a visitor from another planet. He introduced that he had never met such talent before, and started with “Turnaround,” which he did not perform at the previous New Jersey performance. In addition, “Shibrahorn”, “So It May”, “Better Days Ahead”, “Jaco”, “Travels”, “Song for Bilbao”, “Farmer’s Trust”, “When We Were Free”, and the deadly ” “Acoustic Medley” and other Metheny’s signature songs pop out one after another in a turbulent development. Also, James and Nate, who will be performing together this time, are black, and this may be a first for Pat. The songs, which have been performed many times by different members, sound somehow dark. Yeah, that’s cool. And of course Pat, James and Nate, these two are also ridiculously good. And it’s energetic. In this way, I felt that Pat’s previous worldview was being purified and reorganized. Also, for the past three years, Pat has been playing acoustic and tranquil music in the regular quartet, but in this trio he sometimes plays tearful melodies in a bluesy style with a twist like an American rock guitarist. It’s been a long time since they played aggressively with guitar and synths, and it seems like they’re really enjoying playing as a trio. They are the two most important people, but James plays classical acoustic piano like Gwilym Simcock of the Metheny Quartet, a passionate organ playing in the background of a gospel choir, and even though it is a bassless trio, there is a bass… he can freely play synth bass. He generously displayed his talent on a completely different level, such as manipulating things. Nate, the drummer, featured solos here and there, but even in the backing he had a wild sense of rhythm and delicacy, and completely knocked out the audience with his transcendental drumming with 4-beat, samba, and blues beats. Still, it’s a great groove. Together with Chris Dave and Mark Juliana, they are truly the pinnacle of modern jazz drumming.
