Description

PiL returned to Japan in 1985 for the first time in a year and a half. An original recording that appears for the first time in the world that conveys the scene is now available. This work includes the “January 10, 1985: Shibuya Public Hall” performance. This is the best audience recording that tells the whole story. Speaking of PiL’s Japan performances, following their first live performance in Japan in 1983, “LIVE IN TOKYO,” their second visit to Japan in 1985 was made into an official video work, “ANARCHY MOVIE ’85,” but this work is different from that. A full live album of separate performances. First of all, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and check the position of the show.・January 10: Shibuya Public Hall ←★This work★ ・January 11: Nakano Sun Plaza Hall ・January 12: Nakano Sun Plaza Hall ← *Official video ・January 14: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall ・January 15th: Fukuoka Civic Hall, January 16th: Nagoya City Public Hall, 6 performances in total. The official video “ANARCHY MOVIE ’85” was shot at the third performance in the middle, but this work was a concert on the first day immediately after coming to Japan. This work recorded at such a show is actually the work of the prestigious “Kinney”. If you have experienced even one of the Kinney cassettes that we have introduced so far, I think you will understand, but the famous one is not aiming for a sound that is “like a soundboard”. Rather, their individuality was to pursue the highest level of clarity while valuing a sound that was typical of the audience. In other words, rather than sharpening the sound of the hall to create a tighter finish, it takes full advantage of the sound of the hall and captures its resonance beautifully. Moreover, the sound is not too thick, the nuances of the performance are clearly transmitted, and the outline is clearly centered in the center of the space. Rather than clouding or muddying the sound, it becomes an element that gives depth and dynamism to the music. When you put it into words like this, you may think, “Can you make such a skillful recording?”, but because it can be done, it is “Kinney Magic”. And this work is a sample of that, a piece of evidence of magic. It is recorded from the 9th row on the 1st floor, and it has all the above-mentioned advantages, and although it is an audience sound that has a real and on-site feel, it is easy to listen to like an FM broadcast. Many music fans have fallen into the path of sound source mania due to the “Kinney” recording, but its devilish charm is blown out from the speakers. What is depicted with such sweet sound is a full show that can be said to be a sequel to the official work “LIVE IN TOKYO”. As mentioned above, the return visit to Japan in 1985 is also called “ANARCHY MOVIE ’85,” but this work has plenty of repertoire that can’t be heard there. Let’s compare and organize. Public Image (5 songs)・Low Life/Public Image/Annalisa/Attack/Religion This Is What You Want (6 songs)・The Order Of Death/Bad Life/Solitaire (★)/Tie Me To The Length Of That/1981/This Is Not A Love Song Others (5 songs)・Metal Box: Memories/Chant (★)/Poptones (★)・Flowers of Romance: Banging The Door (★)・Katte Nisiya Gare!!: Bodies *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard in the official video “ANARCHY MOVIE ’85”. …and it looks like this. An intense show with a lineup of tokuno numbers centered around two works, “FIRST ISSUE” and the latest work “THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT…”. In addition to the four songs that are not in the official video, “Public Image,” “Attack,” and “Memories” are a delicious repertoire that was not heard even at the first “LIVE IN TOKYO” in Japan. Unfortunately, they didn’t play “Anarchy in the U.K.” that day, but “Bodies” was a solid performance. Of course, it’s a big deal. Following his legendary first visit to Japan, the charismatic John Lydon has already returned to Japan. This is a masterpiece live album that captures that exciting performance with the finest sound. The scent of 35 years ago is brought back to life with ultra-clear sound by the prestigious “Kinney”.
