Description

Two iconic soundboard recordings symbolizing the fleeting Brad Gillis era have been reissued. This is the first of two simultaneous releases. It is a stereo soundboard recording of the “April 28, 1982 Memphis performance.” Although Brad Gillis did not leave behind any studio works during his time with the band, his live recordings are abundant. Including official and unofficial releases, three “peak works” are known. This is one of them. Let’s take a look back at those three works. April 28 Memphis performance [This work] A full live album of the “DIARY OF A MADMAN Tour.” The only soundboard recording of the three works that is not officially released. June 25 Irvine performance Official video version “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL.” A multi-camera pro-shot of the “DIARY OF A MADMAN Tour.” There are various theories about the date of the Irvine performance, and the official credit is “June 12.” The three works mentioned above are the official live album version of the New York performance on September 26th/27th, “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL,” and its source, the leaked soundboard “COMPLETE RITZ 1982.” This is a soundboard recording of a special performance consisting entirely of BLACK SABBATH numbers. It is a permanent preservation of Brad’s version of the Tribute with the highest sound quality. This work is the soundboard recording of the Memphis performance mentioned above. While the official live album “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL” was a special performance consisting entirely of BLACK SABBATH numbers, this work is a full soundboard recording of the “DIARY OF A MADMAN Tour,” which also included famous songs from the Randy Rhoads era. It is a symbolic record of Brad’s era, which could be called the “Gillis version of the Tribute.” So, let’s take a look at the position of the show based on the overview of their activities at the time. January 1st – March 18th: North America #1 (44 shows) [Randy dies March 19th → Bernie Tormé joins] April 1st – 10th: North America #2a (7 shows) [Tormé leaves → Brad Gillis joins] April 13th – June 28th: North America #2b (51 shows) ←★HERE★ July 9th – 15th: Japan (5 shows) August 1st – 8th: North America #3 (3 shows) [Don Airey leaves] September 26th + 27th: Official ‘SPEAK OF THE DEVIL’ [Pete Way/Lindsey Bridgewater joins] December 10th – 20th: UK (7 shows) [Brad & Pete leave → Jake & Don Costa join] This is Ozzy Osbourne in 1982, working with Brad. The Memphis performance in this work is the 12th show of “North America #2b”, just two weeks after Brad joined. This concert took place about two months before the Irvine performance, for which official footage was filmed. This show is also known for being broadcast on RKO Radio Network’s famous program “CAPTURED LIVE!”, and has long been a classic that has spawned countless re-releases. The source for this release is the best master, boasting the longest length and highest sound quality among the broadcast masters. It includes the opening and ending of the program, and is the complete version without any fade-outs from commercials. The sound was already “official-grade” at the time of broadcast mastering, but “GRAF ZEPPELIN” further corrected pitch and phase deviations down to 1/1000th of a second, performed balance adjustments through frequency analysis, and applied noise processing to each frequency band. The result is a sound that maximizes naturalness while being pushed to the “pinnacle of the needle tip”. A full show that dyes Randy’s legacy in Brad’s colors. What is depicted with this ultimate sound is a full show that dyes Randy’s legacy in Brad’s colors. Let’s summarize here. Solo Blizzard of Oz: Mr. Crowley / Crazy Train / Revelation (Mother Earth) / Steal Away (The Night) / Suicide Solution / Goodbye To Romance / I Don’t Know; Diary of a Madman: Over The Mountain / Believer / Flying High Again; BLACK SABBATH: Paranoid: Iron Man / Paranoid; Master of Reality: Children Of The Grave…and so on. There aren’t any rare tracks, but that’s precisely why Brad’s individuality shines through. Guitarists after Zakk Wylde have deified Randy and tried to faithfully imitate him, but Brad was different. He was the same generation as Randy, and even though Randy had passed away, he hadn’t yet been deified. Moreover, Brad was a young man who was about to make his mark on the world. With his flashy style that makes frequent use of the whammy bar, he boldly transforms Randy’s classics into his own. In an era where Randy’s legacy is absolute, his individuality resonates all the more freshly. Brad Gillis, who took over after Randy’s death and blazed through a fleeting six months, is the inspiration for this iconic soundboard recording. This recording, the best master from the original broadcast, has been polished to the absolute limit by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” for the highest quality sound and will be permanently preserved. Combined with the simultaneously released “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL Complete Ritz 1982,” the live archive of Brad’s era is solid. A stereo soundboard recording of the iconic “Memphis performance on April 28, 1982,” the epitome of Brad Gillis’s era. A reproduction of the longest and highest quality master from the original broadcast, polished to the “pinnacle of the needle” by GRAF ZEPPELIN. A “Brad Gillis version of the Tribute” that reimagines Randy’s legacy in Brad’s own colors. Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, TN, USA 28th April 1982 “Brad Gillis version of the Tribute”!
