Description
Another new Randy Rhoads album has arrived in the 21st century! In 2014, it suddenly appeared on the internet and made Randy fans excited at the Music Mountain performance on August 8th of the 2nd leg of the “BLIZZARD OF OZZ” tour. Yes, it is the day after the Providence performance which was said to be “one of the best audiences of 1981”. The Providence performance was made into a CD as “HOWLING BLIZZARD”, but I never expected that such a wonderful recording was left the next day. Everyone has the same feelings for Randy, who passed away young. I want to listen to his guitar for as long as possible, even for just one note. Because I am inspired by this feeling, I have also dabbled in many bootlegs. The beauty of this work is the direct feeling of the guitar that responds to that feeling! When you listen to it, it’s not a well-balanced total sound like the Providence performance, but the sound is close as if you were sitting in the rehearsal room. That Randy playing right next to me…that kind of sound source doesn’t come around very often! The place where this excitement spreads to the fullest is probably Randy’s solo time incorporated in “Suicide Solution”. I don’t know the size of the venue for “Music Mountain” as I don’t know much, but from the sound I can imagine it sounds like a small club rather than a huge stadium. If it was really a club, the Japanese people who couldn’t see Randy would be so envious that they would go crazy, but in such an atmosphere, a full-throated solo roared. This emotion even reminds me of “Dee”…I’m sorry, I said too much. To be honest, the way he plays aggressively doesn’t resemble Dee at all. However, the beauty of the classical melody that suddenly rises up, and the deep sense of privacy, brings back flashbacks to that famous track. Yes, the best part of this work is the sense of privacy that makes you feel like you’re close to Randy! I couldn’t help but keep talking about Randy. However, this work is by no means a recording where you can only hear the guitar. Ozzy’s vocals are firmly in line with the core, and each beat of the drums is crisp and full of direct feeling. Of course the base is also the same. While finishing the super masterpiece “DIARY OF A MADMAN”, Ozzy at the time was aiming to further strengthen himself by acquiring Tommy Aldrich and Rudy Sarzo. You can fully enjoy the feeling of being in a band with these powerful members working together. Moreover, it is completely different from the aloof direct feeling of official and line recordings, and the real enthusiasm of the audience is firmly vacuum packed. It is often said that overseas fans “just want to make noise and don’t listen to the music,” but on this day the audience was full of “I love Ozzy!” and “Randy is amazing!” (lol). Not only were they not listening to the performance, but their clapping and cheering were synchronized with the enthusiasm of the performance, and you could clearly see the love spilling out from them. As Randy’s solo became more heated, the cheers quickly diminished, and immediately after that, he burst into joy. They’re the kind of people who make you want to rush in and say, “You guys, your hands are all gooey,” and you can’t help but want to put your arms around them (lol). Because of this kind of audience, the audience is enthusiastic but doesn’t get in the way of the music. Rather, it’s a natural excitement that seems to be directing the music. Among the very popular Randy recordings, was there ever such a moving and heartwarming recording? A recording that brings me this close to him. Unfortunately, the recording of this work ends at the end of “Children Of The Grave”, and it cannot be said that it is a “perfect recording with no dust”. If you would like to see such a live performance, it would be better to enjoy powerful soundboard items such as the official live version, “DEFINITION OF BLIZZARD (Zodiac 005)”, and Disc 2 of “HOWLING BLIZZARD”. However, this work is full of “warmth” and “love” that you can never experience with such line recordings. This is the exact meaning of the term “private recording.” I wrote at the beginning that I wanted to listen to as many sounds as possible, but I would like to correct this. What we really wanted was to meet Randy. What you hear in this work is that he is not an angel who has descended from heaven, but rather an entertainer right there. Those of us who were never able to meet him in person tend to forget that he was a musician who lived in reality and was loved by the audience in front of him. This is a newly discovered definitive album where you can feel the man “Randy Rhoads” up close and witness the love of the audience. Live at Music Mountain, South Fallsburg, NY.
