Description
A new version of the official *The Ultimate Ozzy* video—widely considered the masterpiece of the Jake E. Lee era—has arrived! This ultimate two-disc set comprehensively covers all professional footage from the *The Ultimate Sin* era. The release features two main types of multi-camera professional footage: the Kansas City concert from April 1, 1986, and the set from the British music TV program *The Tube*. If you’re thinking, “Oh, it’s just that usual one,” you might be jumping the gun. While both are absolute classics, these are distinct versions that differ significantly from previous releases. What exactly makes them different? Let’s take a look at each one. DISC 1: *The Ultimate Ozzy*—A Full Concert Experience. Music videos and acted segments have been replaced with newly discovered raw live footage masters. The centerpiece of this release is the Kansas City concert—the multi-camera professional footage familiar to fans from the official *The Ultimate Ozzy* video. Of course, this is not merely a copy of the official product. It is a “complete live concert” version created recently by overseas enthusiasts who utilized every available piece of source material. The biggest difference is that the entire program consists of live performance footage. The official *The Ultimate Ozzy* release was structured as a hybrid of a live concert video and a music video collection; it replaced the live performance of “The Ultimate Sin” with its music video and added clips for “Shot In The Dark” and “Lightning Strikes,” while also inserting acted sequences into “Bark At The Moon” and “Mr. Crowley.” In contrast, this release contains absolutely no staged or acted scenes. The entire runtime is dedicated to professional live footage from the Kansas City show. The key to this was a newly discovered master tape of the raw live performance, which was used to replace the acted segments. Although the discovered master appears to have been a VHS tape showing signs of degradation, the enthusiasts behind this release restored it with painstaking effort. They enhanced the resolution via upscaling and corrected noise and color reproduction, reviving the footage with a visual quality that rivals even the finest official releases. The audio has also been enhanced. It appears that the source used here is our shop’s own *KANSAS CITY 1986 COMPLETE* (Zodiac 488) release, resulting in a sound that is far more powerful than that of the unearthed tapes or the official DVD. The “Ozzy Buddha” entrance is a stunning, newly unearthed sequence; indeed, the entire production differs drastically from the official version right from the start. It opens with the director declaring, “Let’s start filming,” amidst a frenzy of audience excitement. The show-opening scene—featuring Ozzy descending to the stage aboard the “Ozzy Buddha” prop—is captured perfectly, and during the intro to “Mr. Crowley,” the camera pans across the venue, revealing a sea of lighters. Even the finale, “The Ultimate Sin,” plays out as a continuous pro-shot live performance without cutting away to the music video (note that the song order differs from the actual concert). Naturally, “Lightning Strikes”—which wasn’t performed that day—is absent, and “Shot In The Dark” has also been cut, likely because it was missing from the raw footage. While not a “true” complete show in the strictest sense, the experience of seeing these pro-shot scenes for the first time is deeply moving; it is a live video production that truly captures how the show *should* have been presented. DISC 2: The Expanded “THE TUBE” Complete Edition. While the “Ultimate Ozzy” live footage alone is enough to stir the emotions, this release also includes the legendary TV program *The Tube* as a bonus. It is a two-disc set that captures the entirety of the pro-shot footage from the *Ultimate Sin* era. *The Tube* appearance is a well-known classic, but this version has also undergone a significant upgrade. While the original broadcast (March 28, 1986) featured only three songs—”Shot In The Dark,” “The Ultimate Sin,” and “Never Know Why”—two previously unaired tracks, “Bark At The Moon” and “Paranoid,” have recently surfaced. This release presents an expanded five-song edition, combining the best masters of the original three broadcast tracks with the two newly revealed songs (according to program records, only five songs were filmed, making this a complete edition containing every one of them). For this release, the material has been mastered anew for DVD. This set features the definitive versions, offering the longest and highest-quality footage available. It includes “THE ULTIMATE OZZY”—revitalized as a complete live video—and “THE TUBE,” expanded into a full five-song edition. This two-disc set comprehensively covers pro-shot live footage from the *The Ultimate Sin* era in upgraded quality. While the acclaimed *Kansas City 1986 Complete* was a live album capturing the full soundboard recordings of that era, this release serves as the complete visual counterpart (please note that the promotional video omitted here can be enjoyed on *A Life of Ozz: Definitive Music Video Collection*).
