Description
June 7, 1997 Tibetan Freedom Concert Audience recordings were already available, but this is the first time that the complete soundboard recordings will be released. As the title suggests, it was an event stage, and despite the huge stadium, he performed five songs with electric guitar instead of a band. Noel has performed many acoustic guitar songs in his career, but the only times he performed electric guitar were during his radio appearance in 1998 (included in “LAST NIGHT IN A JUDO ARENA”), in the Noel Corner on his 10th anniversary (included in “10 YEARS OF NOISE AND CONFUSION”), and at this Tibetan Freedom Concert. The cover of the Beatles’ “Helter Skelter” was regularly performed from December 1999, but was never performed on the BE HERE NOW tour, so this was his first performance. Noel faced off alone against a stadium-filling crowd of perhaps tens of thousands, and gave an incredible performance that overwhelmed the audience. June 14, 1997 KROQ WEENIE ROAST AND LUAU This is also the first appearance of the music festival KROQ Weenie Roast, which has been held in California every year since 1993. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not held in 2020 or 2021, but it is still an important event in warm California as a traditional music festival. Oasis appeared at the fifth festival in 1997, and what is noteworthy is that this was the first performance of “Wanderwall,” one of Oasis’ representative songs that has been/will be played countless times throughout their career and even after their breakup, as a band. Liam’s vocals are given a deep echo, and since it was the premiere, his singing is very careful, which is impressive. June 10, 1997 HOWARD STERN SHOW This is a recording of a TV show where Noel appeared alone. He played two songs on acoustic guitar. This was during the time between the Tibetan Freedom Concert and the KROQ WEENIE ROAST. May 17, 1997 PAUL WELLER CONCERT This album contains two songs that Noel performed alone on Paul Weller’s stage. Although it was a guest performance and only two songs, this is a very important performance. First of all, this was the debut of “Half the World Away,” which has become a staple in Oasis’ later live performances and Noel’s solo performances. Surprisingly, the debut was not with Oasis, but on Noel’s solo stage as a guest. Another thing to note is that Noel also plays the electric version of “Shakermaker.” The only other example of this kind of performance was at ORBIT ROOM on March 20, 1995. This album contains the above four concerts. These were held during the transitional period between the MORNING GLORY TOUR and the BE HERE NOW TOUR, and were probably meant as a warm-up to maintain the band’s skills. This is also supported by the fact that many of the songs were premieres. Each recording has a lot to offer, including an irregular set list that differs from the usual tour.
