Description

Last month, we released the soundboard album “MARSEILLES 2000″, which was created by Matt Deighton when Noel was temporarily absent from the band during the 2000 tour, and this week we have also released Oasis’ live sound source for the helper period. Masu. To begin with, the “helper period” in Oasis’ live performances is itself a valuable period, and the first example of this occurred in 1995. This year has a strong impression of being a great success due to the release of our second album “MORNING GLORY”, but it was actually a year full of ups and downs. Let’s look back to the middle of 1995.・End of January-March America #1 (30 performances) ・Late April short-term Europe & first arena ・Tony McCarroll leaves → Alan White joins ・June-July festivals & REM undercard ・August Japan tour (This is the second time since 1994.) Looking back now, the schedule has not been as hectic as the artists of the 60’s and 70’s, but the explosion in popularity that accompanied the release of “MORNING GLORY” has kept them busy since June. The fact is that it happened. Bassist Giggsy was left at the mercy of this situation, and after the performance in Japan, he temporarily left the group. However, they had already started filming the music video for their new single “Wonderwall” and were looking forward to another tour starting in October. It was impossible for management to change the schedule while the band was on the upswing, so they hurriedly hired a bassist to replace Giggy. Scott MacLeod, who was in a band called the Yeah Yeahs, was chosen. The problem is the tour that started in October after he joined. First, they held two warm-up gigs in their home country, and then landed in America for the second time in 1995. However, the members at the time were still young and had a strong sense of camaraderie, and Scott, the helper, was unable to fit in with the band, which seriously interfered with the band’s performance. To make matters worse, I quickly became homesick because I was thrown into America, where I didn’t know what was right and what was left. Finally, after finishing the Pittsburgh performance on October 16th, he returned to England to escape, and Scott’s all-too-short-lived helper period was forcibly ended. In the end, with Giggsy’s return, everything literally returned to its original state, but in this period of Scott’s helper, the number of gigs itself was small, and the number of items was also very small. Especially in the United States, Liam was already in a bad condition when he went on stage, and as a result, Noel took over from the middle of the day, which became a standard Boston performance where the incident was broadcast on the radio. Besides that, the only audience recording that was released was the Baltimore performance on October 10th. An audience recording with surprisingly good sound quality was released under the title “GETTING HIGH,” but for some reason, it was an incomplete recording with three songs cut, and instead it was filled with a copy of the official single B-side song. . Even though the very valuable period was recorded with good sound quality, such recording conditions were a big deduction. However, the original sound source has been circulating among traders and on the Internet for some time, and this time, the first complete version release will be realized based on it. What surprises me most when listening to this sound source is how quiet the recording state is, which is hard to believe for an American audience recording. Maybe it’s not exciting? The sense of realism is so great that you can almost feel the illusion of being there, but you can also feel the excitement in the distance, and there are female fans on the left cheering energetically. Immediately after she shouts out the song for “Some Might Say,” Noel calls out the same song and the scene where she is overjoyed is wonderful. Therefore, it can be inferred that it was recorded from a special position not only from the surrounding circumstances but also from the fact that the sound of Noel’s guitar sounds as if it was picked up from an amplifier rather than a PA. Although it doesn’t have the sound image that would be described as “like a soundboard,” it’s really easy to hear because the surroundings are quiet. However, it is undeniable that there is a sense of balance in which the treble is noticeable as it seems to be a DAT audience recording from the mid-1990s, and this has been softened by adding some equalization for this release. I think you can feel this change from the sound of Whitey’s cymbals. Furthermore, due to the age of the DAT, processing has been applied to make the digital noise that occurred at the beginning of “Cigarettes & Alcohol” less noticeable. Thanks to the quiet surroundings, Liam’s voice was a little rough on this day… In other words, it seems that it was already not perfect from the first day of the American tour. It got that bad on the radio broadcast in Boston four days later, but fortunately on this day it didn’t escalate to that extent and was able to hold on and sing properly until the end. In fact, from around “Roll With It” onwards, it’s getting closer to normal business. After all, Boston ended like that, so it is also valuable that this tour captures the day Liam was on stage until the end with high sound quality. And ironically, because the sound quality is excellent, you can even hear Scott’s state of not being able to blend in with the band. First of all, you can hear that he made a mistake in the composition with “Cigarettes & Alcohol”, but it was even more serious with “Champagne Supernova”. While Noel is playing a guitar solo, Scott loses track of the structure, misses the notes, and finally stops playing. The other members were naturally depressed, and not only was Noel distracted by his mistake and almost missed the note, but Liam was also delayed in returning to the song. From this scene, you can clearly feel Scott’s anxiety, “Is he okay?” Unusually during this period, the finale “I Am The Walrus” was removed from the set list, and the pattern was to close with “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” instead, but regarding this point, “I Am ~” might be difficult for Scott? Perhaps there was some consideration. That’s why the persuasiveness of Noel’s singing corner, where he is not confused by the boring bassist (bitter smile), is wonderful, and the sound image is even closer, making it easier to hear. Even if you only listen to this part, you can realistically capture the electric-acoustic-like sound that Noel makes, suggesting that it was probably recorded from a special position. In addition, you can also get a glimpse of the enthusiastic reaction of the audience on the other side of the performance. And at the end, which was not heard in the already released “GETTING HIGH”, Liam completely recovered and played the gig to the end. It was an oversight that this part was not included. In this way, it is enriched both in terms of content and sound quality, and the excellent audience at this precious time is released in the complete version for the first time!
