Description

Just like the Oasis performance in Nagoya that will be released this time, although the audience recording was originally recorded on DAT, the CD was released after the digital copy from DAT to DAT was not possible and the degraded version became widespread. What happened was the Chicago performance in September 1996. This legendary day was held with Noel Gallagher on vocals for all songs in order to carry out the concert as planned, despite Liam Gallagher’s unreasonable decision to cancel his trip to the United States at the last minute due to an impending move. Following the recording of MTV’s “Unplugged” a few weeks ago, due to Liam’s circumstances, we suddenly performed the formation stage without him. Let’s take a look back at Oasis’ schedule at that time.・August 23rd: Recording of MTV “Unplugged” in London (without Liam) ・August 27th: Chicago [this work] (starting of US tour without Liam) ・August 30th: Detroit (with Liam) ・8 September 31st: Toronto ・September 2nd: Philadelphia ・September 6th: Worcester ・September 7th & 8th: New York ・September 10th: Bristow After this, in Charlotte, Liam’s continuing scandals have become unbearable. Noel, who had run out of energy, threw out the tour and the American tour was forced to end. Fortunately, there is an audience recording of such a valuable happening show, and its name has been released with the title “CHICAGO LIAM-LESS SHOW”. It seems that many enthusiasts got it because it was a live stage that was completed without Liam, but the problem was that the pitch was out of order, there were many cuts between songs, and above all, the sound quality itself was rough. I thought that the sound source was in such a state, but about 10 years ago, a CD-R copied from the master DAT was distributed among traders, and as a result, the “CHICAGO LIAM-LESS SHOW” (hereinafter referred to as the previously released version) was distributed among traders. It turns out that the original version was based on a considerably degraded copy. This was also a time when it was not easy to copy from DAT to DAT, so it was transferred to cassettes and distributed among traders. Moreover, unlike Nagoya, the cassette was duplicated a considerable number of times, and the result was that it was already released. In fact, the sound quality was so different that it was misunderstood among enthusiasts that there were two types of sound sources, but when you listen to the previously released version with the pitch corrected, it is exactly the same, including the cheers of the people around you. You should know it’s a recording. The sound quality was on another level, especially how the clear sound quality of the original DAT master had deteriorated. This is the DAT master version that will be released this time, and the sound quality is very clear, as praised by enthusiasts who have heard it. The freshness and clearness unique to DAT recording are clear. Although the sound image of the recording is not so close that it can be described as “just like a soundboard,” the combination of a moderate sense of distance and freshness makes it very easy to hear. Because of that, it gave the illusion that it was a different sound source. However, in the first half of the live performance until around “Cigarettes & Alcohol”, the position of the taper was not stable, and the sound was periodically muffled (this was also amplified on the previous release), so this time it was muffled. As a result of separating the different parts and applying equalization, the result is much more stable and easier to listen to than the original recording. Since it is a digital audience recording with a good background, it was successfully polished by equalization using the latest technology. When this happens, it can’t be compared with the already released version. And unlike MTV’s “Unplugged,” which had an acoustic lineup for the reason mentioned above, this day’s stage was the first in Oasis’ live history to feature “normal band lineup, but full-length Noel vocals.” There have been previous stages where Noel took over the singing part because Liam complained of poor health, but this is the first time that Noel sang completely from beginning to end. What’s more, this time it wasn’t that Liam wasn’t feeling well, but that he was staying in the UK for the aforementioned reasons. I think the fun of such a happening show is summarized in the first song, “Noel sings the whole song by himself” Acquiesce. Judging from the first half, which is normally sung by Liam, Noel is singing it. It’s really interesting. Furthermore, “Roll With It” and “Champagne Supernova” are the first versions that Noel sings with a band in the background, but it’s funny that there is a feeling that he is not used to singing in many places. In addition, Noel versions of songs such as “Hello” and “Listen Up” were performed in “Unplugged”, but this time it is valuable that he sings with a regular non-acoustic band backing, and it is still recorded. As a result, this is the first Noel version of “My Big Mouth”, which was a new song, and is extremely valuable. On this day, it was announced at the venue before the performance that it would be held without Liam, but I can’t help but be surprised at the excitement, where there was no feeling of dissatisfaction with the incident of his absence. There was no booing at all, in fact, they were so excited that they screamed with joy every time Noel announced the name of the song. He sings “Cast No Shadow” alone and sings in the chorus of “Wonderwall”, and I am moved by the lively excitement that does not make you feel that Liam is absent. In this way, the rare Noel show was released in an overwhelmingly upper version, but it was also because Noel suddenly had to sing the entire song and the “Champagne Supernova” live was concluded. As you can see, the performance time is short for a show of this period. Therefore, Liam’s vocals “Listen Up” and “It’s Gettin’ Better (Man!!)”, which was not sung in Chicago, were added as bonus tracks from the audience recording in New York after Liam’s return. This is also a good audience recording and the first CD, so you can’t miss it. Above all, the Noel show in Chicago was released after a long time with an overwhelming upper feeling. Already released editions have been hard to obtain for a long time now, so all enthusiasts who have never heard the legendary day before can enjoy it with clear sound quality that can be recommended with confidence!
