Description

REEL MASTERS, who continue to release astonishing sound sources and delight hard collectors all over the world, is the latest work by the legendary Canterbury music band NUCLEUS! On June 27, 1972, London recorded a shocking high-quality live performance at Westfield College in Hampstead. Introducing a very rare live sound source from NUCLEUS’ fourth album “Belladonna” released under the name of Ian Carr. The young Alan Holdsworth, who would later join SOFT MACHINE, participated as a guitarist, and you can hear his tremendous solo play with extremely clear sound, making full use of that unique playing technique. Nowadays, this item is likely to appeal to fans of guitarist Allan Holdsworth, but not only that, but the sound quality of this performance by this face is truly astonishing. Dave Macrae, who would later play an active role in “MATCHING MOLE”, and Roger Sutton, who would be participating in the 6th album “ROOTS” as a substitute, were playing bass on this day, making it a very unusual lineup for this period. British rock fans will be moved to tears by their highly original JAZZ ROCK. “Song For The Bearded Lady”, which is the original opening song of SOFT MACHINE’s “BUNDLES”, is played in the second half of some of the songs. The songs are also selected from each album, and the final song is a number from the next album “LABYLINTH”. The aforementioned Allan Holdsworth also gave a wonderful performance, and his 17-minute guitar solo on “Belladonna” received a huge ovation from the audience. Recently, Nucleus has been re-releasing official editions one after another, but it is nothing short of a miracle that the live sound source by Menz, which was probably the shortest in terms of lineup, has survived in this condition. Although it is a two-disc set, due to the recording tape, both of the two parts of the stage are cut out near the ending, and there are some sound cutouts at around the 3 minute mark of some Torrid Zones due to the master. It is a shame to do so, but there is no doubt that the appearance of this sound source that allows you to enjoy hot performances for such a long time and with stable high quality sound is a truly surprising incident for Canterbury fans. This time too, the recorders were staff from a Japanese record company at the time, and we are grateful to them for recording such a valuable show with a stable sound image! is. This is a shocking excavated sound source that not only Canterbury rock fans but all British rock fans should listen to.
