Description

LIVE AND LOUD, a live masterpiece that symbolized the band’s four-member era, is now available for the first time as a complete soundboard master with an alternate mix that conveys its true sound! This 2CD set is set to be released urgently, sending shockwaves through the collector’s world!! This release captures the “December 13, 1993 Seattle performance,” a stereo soundboard recording. Of course, this show is also familiar from the official live album LIVE AND LOUD, but this is neither a copy nor a processed live album. Rather, it is the original master, going back in time. It is a leaked soundboard master of the “concert venue mix,” a natural soundboard that approaches the true sound of the live performance, not the sound that was broadcast or commercialized. Before discussing its quality, let’s first consider the show’s position. Where did this one night fit in the ‘IN UTERO’ era? Let’s examine its history at the time. 1993 – January 16th + 23rd: Brazil (2 shows) – April 9th / July 23rd / August 6th: North America #1 (3 shows) 《September 23rd: “IN UTERO” released》 – October 18th – December 31st: North America #2a (38 shows) ←★HERE★ 1994 – January 1st – 8th: North America #2b (6 shows) ←※Official Seattle SBD – February 6th – March 1st: Europe (15 shows) ←※ROME 1994 etc. 《April 5th: Kurt Cobain dies》 This is NIRVANA’s final year and a half in 1993/1994. Among them, “North America #2a”, immediately after the release of “IN UTERO”, has garnered particularly high praise from fans. Throughout 1993, they were musically in peak condition, and this album was born during this leg. This “North America #2a” section unearthed not only recordings like ‘MTV UNPLUGGED’ and ‘LIVE AND LOUD,’ but also soundboard recordings of the Inglewood concert, which were officially included in the ‘IN UTERO’ 30th anniversary box set. Let’s expand the dates further and confirm the relative locations of each. Details of “North America #2a” – October 18th – November 17th (24 shows) *November 18th: ‘MTV UNPLUGGED (Official)’ – November 26th: Jacksonville show *November 27th: ‘MIAMI 1993′ – November 28th – December 10th (10 shows) *December 13th: Seattle show ←★This release★ – December 14th – 30th (6 shows) *December 30th: ’30th Anniversary Inglewood SBD (Official)’ *December 31st: ‘DEFINITIVE OAKLAND 1993’ A new original master for a different venue has been discovered. As you can see, the Seattle show in this release is towards the end of “North America #2a”. It is about a month after the historic ‘MTV UNPLUGGED’ and about two weeks before the official Inglewood soundboard release. While that show has been loved as the official “LIVE AND LOUD,” this release is a completely different soundboard recording of the same concert. This is a first-time-release master unearthed through the same unique route as the highly acclaimed “MTV UNPLUGGED REHEARSAL 1993 (Zodiac 891),” and it’s a “venue mix” created by Scott Litt, the producer of “LIVE AND LOUD.” It’s not the sound meant to be broadcast, nor the sound that was later commercialized, but a soundboard assembled specifically for that moment. In fact, there have been leaks of direct-connect soundboard recordings before, but those were degraded sound due to multiple overdubs, and were only about 78 minutes long at most. In contrast, this is a genuine master directly from Scott Litt’s original source. With a running time of approximately 82 minutes, it is the longest and finest updated version, literally preserving the entire show from the broadcast intro to the outro announcing the later broadcast date. The “beautiful roar” is possible precisely because it is unprocessed, and the sound quality is even more appealing than its length. As mentioned earlier, this recording is a different mix from the MTV broadcast. And it’s wonderfully natural and real. Both the broadcast version and the official version released in 2013 had a harsh, processed sound that was compressed. But this recording is the real live sound. You can fully appreciate the resonance of the instruments themselves, and even the slightest nuances are captured without distortion or crushing. The long, sustained sounds dissolve beautifully into the air until the very end. Of course, this is Nirvana. The band’s sound itself is violent, but even that aggression has a beauty that comes from being unprocessed. You could call it “beautiful roar.” The true face of that night, which no one had ever heard before, rises up exactly as it was. This beautiful roar depicts the stage from the ‘IN UTERO’ era, when the band had evolved into a large ensemble with the addition of rhythm guitar and cello. The set is similar to, yet different from, the recent Inglewood soundboard recording, so let’s compare and organize them here. IN UTERO (7 songs) – Radio Friendly Unit Shifter / Serve The Servants / Rape Me / Pennyroyal Tea / Scentless Apprentice (★) / All Apologies / Heart-Shaped Box Others (10 songs + α) – Bleach: Blew / School / About A Girl – Nevermind: Drain You / Breed / Come As You Are / Lithium / Endless, Nameless (Jam) (★) – Others: Sliver / The Man Who Sold the World *Note: Songs marked with “★” were not included in the Inglewood concert soundboard included in the IN UTERO 30th anniversary box set. Bonus: The rehearsal from the day is also included from the newly discovered original master. The full show alone is enough to fill you up, but this release also includes the rehearsal from the same day as a bonus. The source for this is the open mic audio from the professional cameras that were rolling on the day. In other words, it is a staff recording that captured the atmosphere of the venue. The cameraman moved back and forth between the stage and the audience floor, constantly on the move throughout the rehearsal. Even the tactile sensations of his movements are captured in the sound. This recording was known before, but this release features a newly unearthed, upgraded master. The previous version was a maximum of 34 minutes, but this one is an extra minute longer at “35:00”. And, importantly, the sound. The previous master was a VHS copy that had gone through dubbing, but this release is a direct copy from the original master. It is truly the ultimate master sound worthy of permanent preservation. “Very Ape,” which did not appear in the main performance, pops up, “Sliver” is repeatedly performed, and they warm up with a jam session. You can relive what happened in the hours leading up to the show, even the raw, tactile sensations. “LIVE AND LOUD,” a masterpiece that now stands alongside “IN UTERO” and “MTV UNPLUGGED,” is revealed in this official, transcendent soundboard album that conveys its true essence. This newly unearthed master captures the richness of their sound in 1993 and where they were headed. The very essence of their performance comes alive, and it also includes the longest rehearsal recording ever made from the same day. This is the first-ever complete stereo soundboard recording of their December 13, 1993 Seattle performance. Discovered through the same unique route as the ‘MTV UNPLUGGED REHEARSAL 1993’ master, it features the same show as the official ‘LIVE AND LOUD’, but with a different mix for the venue by producer Scott Litt. At approximately 82 minutes, it surpasses previous leaked soundboard recordings, completely capturing everything from the broadcast intro to the outro announcing the broadcast date. Experience a natural, realistic, and beautifully roaring sound unlike anything you’ve heard on broadcast or the official release. Furthermore, the rehearsal from the same day is included as a bonus from the newly discovered original master. This is truly a definitive two-disc set.
