Description
A long and superb live album capturing the final days of NIRVANA on a stereo soundboard is now available. This work contains the “February 22, 1994 Rome performance”. It is a part of “IN UTERO TOUR”, which was Kurt Cobain’s last tour. First of all, let’s look back on the position of this work in the journey from the release of the final original album “IN UTERO” to his death. [1993] “IN UTERO” released on September 23rd. October 18th – November 15th: North America #1 (20 shows). November 18th “MTV UNPLUGGED” recorded. November 27th – December 18th: North America #2 (14 shows). December 29th – 31st: North America #3 (3 shows). [1994] January 1st – 8th: North America #4 (6 shows). February 6th – March 1st: Europe (15 shows). April 5th: Kurt Cobain dies. This is the full story of the “IN UTERO TOUR”. In his later years, Kurt, who was plagued by serious drug addiction and depression, ended the tour with only 59 shows. The Rome performance in this work is the penultimate show. It is the concert six weeks before he died. Such a Rome performance was recorded on a soundboard and broadcast on FM radio. Known as “almost the last radio broadcast”, this is a classic sound board representing “IN UTERO TOUR”. Although it has produced many previous releases since the beginning, this work is one that uses the highest quality master. In fact, although the length of the recording is the same as the previous release, the main point is the wonderful sound. The pitch that was crazy in the previous release is accurate, but above all, it is much more vivid and dynamic! The previous release was an “official-class sound board” without complaint, but even if you say “official”, the official version is also a bit different. The previous release of the classic is “excavation” class according to the official standard. Even though it was extremely clear and direct, there was no sense of space and it was a somewhat flat sound. However, this work is magnificently three-dimensional. The fine details and the strong core are wonderful, and it is a super-exquisite sound that is “masterpiece live album” class even by official standards. The stereo feeling also wraps the whole body in the chaos of sound vividly. The sound depicts a show 43 days before his death. NIRVANA’s final set alternates between the “NEVERMIND” and “IN UTERO” numbers, sprinkling them with “Sliver”, “About A Girl” and “School”. There is also an official video work “LIVE AND LOUD” from this tour, but there are plenty of seven songs that you can’t hear there. The numbers on “NEVERMIND” are particularly thick, with “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “In Bloom”, “Polly”, “Lounge Act”, “Territorial Pissings”, and “On A Plain” also being performed, and all of the 12 songs on the album except “Stay Away” and “Something In The Way” are played. Of course, the new songs on “IN UTERO”, which is the key, are also delicious. Nine of the 12 songs are performed, and “Dumb” in particular cannot be heard on “LIVE AND LOUD”. The luxury of being able to enjoy such a large-scale behavior on a super-fine sound board is unparalleled. This is truly the best live album from the “IN UTERO TOUR”. NIRVANA, the darling of the era, walked a very strange path. This is a classic live album that depicts their final appearance with a superb sound board, and is the best of the best. It is an important work that should be passed down alongside the official works “IN UTERO”, “MTV UNPLUGGED” and “LIVE AND LOUD”, and it is also a piece that boasts sound quality that is worthy of it.
