NICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS archive series progresses simultaneously with the tour. The latest masterpiece live album is now available. From the beginning of the tour… no, we have been reporting on live albums since the beginning of the project, and this week the latest reports will be released at the same time. This work is a masterpiece live album of “March 25, 2019 Houston Performance” which is the earliest of them. A European tour of the same scale as last year is planned for this year, but before that they are conducting their largest North American tour. The Houston performance of this work was the 9th concert. Well, this work that recorded such a show is another wonderful recording. Several types of recordings of this show have already appeared, but this work is the No. 1 master that stands out among them. Best of all, it has a beautiful and warm sound. It uses the famous Schoeps MK4, which is used by masters around the world, and the core is responsive and reaches straight without making you feel the distance. Moreover, it is not just a vivid recording, but it is wonderful because it has a good atmosphere. So far, we have introduced many masterpiece recordings of SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS, but their diverse personalities can be broadly divided into two. One is a super direct sound that can be used as a substitute for a soundboard/official work. The other is the beautiful sound that clearly conveys the fantastical mood that lingers at the scene. Of course, every performance is a carefully selected master, so it has aspects of both, but it leans toward one or the other. This work is a sample of the latter. Everything from the drum hits to the synths and singing voices is clear, and at the same time, it is a famous recording of the type that firmly captures the early FLOYD-like “mood”. In fact, the atmosphere and experience are wonderful. Although you never feel the distance, the sound has a beauty that has been carefully thought out, even down to the acoustics of the venue, and the applause and cheers that erupt between songs are realistic. Maybe it’s because the audience is older, but even though it’s from the United States, it doesn’t make a fuss, but the crowd cheering as they please seems to be American. This is a live album where you can stand in the middle of it and immerse yourself in FLOYD music that depicts the 60’s and early 70’s like the flow of a river. What is depicted with the beautiful sound is the already completed world of SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS. In the “North American” tour, there were some minor changes in the first two performances, but they were fixed from the third performance onwards. To this day, we have continued to repeat solid sets. Since this is the 7th performance since then, the new set has already soaked in and the ensemble is in full swing. Nick Mason, who turned 75 this year, seemed to be having a tough time on the tour, but his condition seems to be unwavering, perhaps because the tour only lasts three days. A great recording with excellent experience even in live archives. I think it will be difficult for them to perform in Japan, but if it happens… it will be a masterpiece of a real live album that will stir your imagination.
