Description

Following Dave Gilmour in 2003, Nick Mason was awarded the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Prince William of the British Royal Family. The latest live album held the day before the award ceremony is now available. This work includes “Cambridge performance on May 1, 2019”. This is the best audience recording. This week, three albums from the latest UK tour will be released simultaneously, so let’s organize the positions of each live album by schedule.・April 29th “CARDIFF 2019” ・April 30th “AYLESBURY 2019” ・May 1st: Cambridge performance [This work] 《May 2nd: Awarded the Order of the British Empire》 ・May 3rd: London performance・May 4th: London performance This is all the UK performances in 2019. Performances are being held for 3 days + 2 days in between the Order of the British Empire ceremony, and this week the first three performances will be released simultaneously. Among them, the Cambridge performance of this work is the latest concert. This work, which records such a show, is truly the best. In the commentary for “AYLESBURY 2019” released at the same time, we classified the individuality of the recording into three types: “clear/dynamic/mood”, and if you follow that, this work is a “slightly dynamic clear type”. Of course, it is too rough to classify the wide variety of audience recordings into three types, and if I had to say it, it would be like… Although it is not so close that it can be mistaken for a sound board, the atmosphere is crystal clear. The extra-thick core reaches straight through the crystal clearness that shines like a wine glass, and every detail is super vivid. And even the slight sound from the hall does not become muddy or cloudy, rather it makes the performance sound sparkle and create a spectacle. It is truly a clear and dynamic masterpiece recording. Also, this work is delicious because it has a real audience. The other two works released at the same time feel like the performance sound occupies everything, but this work also absorbs the enthusiasm of the scene, and you can feel a great excitement. Of course, it would be ruinous if it were intrusive, but this work is different. Although the clear performance sound does not give up the leading role in the slightest, there is also a slight chorus of the audience chanting early FLOYD’s masterpieces. This is really good. In fact, SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS is limited to the repertoire before “Madness”, so it is difficult to get a chorus. However, this is their third UK tour, and because of the internet society, the lyrics of early numbers and details of the show have become familiar to the audience. Of course, this work doesn’t have the feeling of a “huge chorus”, but it records the songs being hummed together and cheering loudly. You can enjoy the latest mood that has become like a rock show with clear sound. And one more thing. What makes this work unique is the equipment trouble. It occurs in “Point Me At The Sky” by Orasu. Up until that point everything had been going without any problems, but when this song came on, the keyboard stopped making any sound. The intro of “Point Me At The Sky” is sung over sparkling synth sounds and a keyboard like a pipe organ, but in this work it is completely a cappella. Actually, this is really great. The chorus work stands out due to the unexpected a cappella, and I’m hooked as if it had been arranged that way from the beginning. Normally, if a problem occurs, the song would stop or become sluggish, but on this day, it was performed perfectly. In fact, it’s even an attractive new version. There are troubles, and you can hear the audience singing. These two points can be a drawback depending on the person, but they can also be a unique charm. When it comes to recommended discs for everyone, I have no choice but to give “AYLESBURY 2019” the upper hand, but for those who enjoy its individuality, this work is overwhelmingly better. Although the sound and show are unique, the quality itself is a masterpiece that is at its peak. Corn Exchange, Cambridge, UK 1st May 2019 TRULY AMAZING SOUND Disc 1(55:14) 1. Intro 2.
