Description
NICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS, an early FLOYD reprint project that received great acclaim last year, has set out to conquer the United States this year. The latest live album, which has already begun to show signs of change and has also been hit by trouble, is now available. This work includes “March 13, 2019: Seattle Performance”. This week, they will also release their first album “VANCOUVER 2019”, which will be their first album since their restart. First of all, let’s check each other’s positions on the latest schedule. ・March 12th “VANCOUVER 2019” ・March 13th: Seattle [This work] ・March 15th: San Francisco ・March 16th + 17th: Los Angeles >>Now Here<<・March 19th: Phoenix・March 21st – April 22nd: North America (22 performances) ・April 29th – May 4th: UK (5 performances) ・July 3rd – 27th: Europe (14 performances) This is the list to date. Published schedule for 2019. The currently ongoing North American tour is scheduled for a total of 28 performances, but the above is a detailed breakdown of the first six performances (please refer to the explanation of “VANCOUVER 2019” for the full details of the activities). “VANCOUVER 2019” released at the same time was the first day, but the Seattle performance of this work was the second performance the next day. You will understand that it is the latest recording that has not even been a week since the actual performance. There are three points to this work that recorded such a show. One is sound quality. It is an exquisite audience recording with a beautiful and neat sound. It is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board because you can feel a fleeting atmosphere, but the details are not blurry and the core that reaches without stagnation is strong. It also has great balance and stability. The treble shines crystal clear and extends beautifully, and the midrange is responsive. The bass lines are clearly drawn, but none of them jump out, neatly building up the unique sound world of SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS, without causing any shaking. Although the sound of the hall creates an exquisite illusion, it does not become cloudy or muddy. It is truly an honor student of audience recording. And the second thing is the show itself. As mentioned in the commentary for “VANCOUVER 2019” released at the same time, new songs “Remember A Day” and “Childhood’s End” will be released for the first time from this North American tour. As with previous shows, you can enjoy a more diverse collection of early FLOYD reprints, with songs that have been revived for the first time in decades. On the first day, the single song “Point Me At The Sky” was dropped instead, but on the second day, this song was also revived. Since last year’s European tour, the number of songs has been increased by two without missing anything, and a full show with a larger volume than ever before has been realized. The last point is unexpected trouble. While Kazane’s SE was playing, the highlight of the main set, “One Of These Days” started…no. No matter how much time passes, that bass riff doesn’t come in, the cold wind just blows through the venue, and the song ends with a comment explaining the trouble. And the band suddenly plays “Childhood’s End”, which was originally scheduled for an encore. However, this seems to have been a problem on the SE side, not the base. I can hear the bass that’s trying to get into the song, and it plays fine on “Childhood’s End.” Although it is a new story “Childhood’s End”, the main set ends with a feeling that there is no tightness. However, the recovery after that was amazing. The members who came back for an encore performed “One Of These Days” in full this time. It is also the most famous song in the set, and it becomes a grand encore. Actually, “Childhood’s End” has been moved to the middle of the set from the next San Francisco performance, but maybe this trouble was the trigger for something. Last year’s SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS had a total of 25 performances. This North American tour is on a much larger scale than that. This work is a delicious live album packed with the latest report, the premiere of the longest set, and valuable troubles. I’m sure there will be more reports in the future, but this one is (probably) the most unique.
