Neil Young/Unreleased Album 1977

“Chrome Dreams” is an unreleased album that Neil Young produced in 1977 but was shelved. It would have been Neil’s masterpiece of the 70s if it had been released, but it was never released after that, and only a few songs from this album were re-recorded and released. Recording was done intermittently from 1974 to 1977, and the album title and artwork were decided, but it was never released, and Neil’s interest shifted to “American Stars ‘N Bars”. “Powderfinger” is a hard number that was included in “Rust Never Sleeps”, but this album has a beautiful acoustic version instead of the electric arrangement. “Sedan Delivery” is also arranged slowly, and “Pocahontas” is a simple one without overdubs, and various differences can be seen. “Hold Back The Tears” is very different from “American Stars ‘N Bars”, and even unreleased lyrics have been added. “Too Far Gone” is an unreleased track that would not see the light of day until Freedom, over a decade later.
