Description
Evolving from Hatfield, pursuing cooler and more human melodies and complex chord progressions, and paving the way for Canterbury jazz rock, this is a complete recording of the Boston Modern Theater performance on November 5th from the 1979 US tour, which was their final years. The live recordings of this US tour are 6 songs on the official “PLAY TIME” and the Lawrence performance two weeks later were leaked as a 76-minute soundboard recording, but the Boston performance was an audience recording, but the quality was good for the time, and the live performance was recorded perfectly for a total of 110 minutes, and the sound quality has also improved. Also, Alan Gowen from Gilgamesh rejoined the band at the beginning of the year, refining their aggressive sound and developing the ultimate smooth jazz rock. The set also changed considerably from day to day, and on this day they also performed “TNTFX” and “Toad Of Toad Hall”, which will later be included in “D.S. Al Coda”. The performance was amazing, starting with “Dreams Wide A Wake”, which features J. Greaves’ percussive and aggressive bass line, and in the middle, “Play Time”, which features Alan’s simple head-beating riff and John and Pip’s speedy and precise rhythm combination, and the final part of “Toad Of Toad Hall”, which has a dizzying rhythm change, is played with tension and leads to the ending. The last part, “3:15”, which has not been released until now, is also included, and all of them have a sensitive melody sense, and they incorporate precise developments while taking exquisite intervals, making this a must-listen item that contains the full performance of Canterbury’s best performance.
