Description
MOTORHEAD has had a distant relationship with major labels throughout their career. This is a reprint of the official footage from 1991, when they signed with Sony’s major EPIC Records and released their masterpiece “1916” which became a smash hit. The true identity of this work is “EVERYTHING LOUDER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE”. There is also a live album with the same name, but that one was released in 1998. This work is completely different from that, and is a live video work from the “1916” era. At that time, the HR/HM bubble was still alive and well, and many bands were making major hits. Even MOTORHEAD, which didn’t pay any attention to the majors, was affiliated with a major company. The first album, “1916,” had a wider range of styles than ever before, and included the ballad “Love Me Forever,” making it a masterpiece that successfully balances “uniqueness” and “major feel.” This work is a video work of that era, and is a multi-camera professional shot of the “Munich performance on March 11, 1991.” First of all, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and check the position of the show.・February 3rd – 25th: Europe #1a (13 performances) [“1916” released on February 26th] ・February 27th – April 18th: Europe #1b (38 performances) ←★Here★・6 March 10th-30th: Japan/Oceania (10 performances) July 9th-August 18th: North America (29 performances) September 25th: Norway performance December 18th-23rd: Europe #2 (6 performances) This is MOTORHEAD in 1991. They started a world tour from Europe, which is their major market, and “1916” was released during that tour. The Munich performance of this work was the 11th concert of “Europe #1b”. This work, which was shot at such a show, is of course completely official. Actually, this work itself has been made into an official DVD, but this work is a little different. It was woken up from the Japanese version laser disc released at that time. You may be thinking, “Is it a laser disc when there is an official DVD?”, but this is actually the point: it comes with Japanese subtitles. Remy’s MC can also be seen with Japanese subtitles, but even more important is the documentary scene. Although this work mainly focuses on live performances, there are plenty of interviews with each member and scenes from the tour bus and backstage in between. Reminiscences from his time with HAWKWIND: “Hitler was a man from the 80s” “Marriage? I thought about it for about 30 minutes” “Everyone still chases women even after they’re married. It’s not sincere. I’m an honest man.” Many Lemmy-like words such as these, and even Animal’s comments such as “Lemmy is a 4-string rhythm guitar. He can’t afford a 6-string” are vividly conveyed. However, the document is just a bonus, and of course the main point is the live performance. This work is basically a monochrome image, but it has been colored with effects here and there. It’s a stylish video that seems to be from the 90’s (or should I say late 80’s) and major, but the performance is the same as the harsh MOTORHEAD. Let’s organize the contents here. Golden trio era numbers (2 songs)・OVERKILL: Metropolis・ACE OF SPADES: Ace Of Spades 4 person era numbers (10 songs)・NO REMORSE: Killed By Death・ORGASMATRON: Orgasmatron・ROCK ‘N’ ROLL: Traitor/Just’ Cos You Got the Power ・1916: I’m So Bad (Baby I Don’t Care)/Going To Brazil/No Voices In The Sky/Angel City/Love Me Forever/R.A.M.O.N.E.S. . The repertoire of the Golden Age was limited to “Metropolis” and “Ace Of Spades”, and there are a lot of famous songs since the group became four members. There are some great classics that were played until later, such as “Going To Brazil” and “Killed By Death,” but there are also plenty of famous songs unique to that time, such as “Traitor,” “No Voices In The Sky,” and “Love Me Forever.” In particular, “Angel City” is a rare song exclusive to this tour, and the famous ballad “Love Me Forever,” which became a hot topic at the time (Lemmy said, “I thought you’d never hear it again, right?”) can be enjoyed in superb quality. Masu. The opening captions, “Filmed in unified Germany” and “Coincidentally, the Gulf War began and ended during this (filming) period” make this a video work that gives you a sense of the times. Due to the economic downturn triggered by the war, a storm of HR/HM bands being cut off by major companies raged on, and MOTORHEAD returned to being a small-to-medium-sized label. Although MOTORHEAD didn’t seem like a good match at first glance, they dated Major without losing their “character”. A stylish video that allows you to witness that precious era.
